They could more than pay for that fine by just selling subscriptions. I'm sure there are some perverts that love checking out people with surgical masks on... maybe there's a SARS Fetish newsgroup somewhere?
But the industry has dooped people so well that they believe there is really nothing wrong when software fails. They believe that it is just the way it is, that they should hit the reset button and get on with life.
I wouldn't necessarily think that the software industry has "dooped" people, I think it's just the way things evolved.
When people first started using computers for everyday things, it was so amazing and new that they figured: "Well, this computer stuff is new, it can't work flawlessly all the time...this reset button seems to fix things, let's give it a press!"
Also, a little off the topic, but I don't think it's really fair to compare computers to cars, if I could just hit a reset button on my Geo and start over, I'd be a happy man - though my mechanic wouldn't.

You know what they say, bad publicity is still publicity...and all us Linux Zealots are just fueling the fire.
Thanks for the radiation lesson, but it was a joke ;)
Thank you for pointing that out and making my day as well. HAH!
People won't have enough until their teenagers turn radioactive and sterile.
Actually, mentioning 9/11 is quite relevant when discussing Spider-Man...one of the key scenes in the movie involving the twin towers was removed.
