This is exactly the kind of frothing mouthed paranoia and FUD that needs to stop. Being responsible about reporting doesnt mean youre a shill, and anyone making that claim is part of the problem with the media today, in general. Not everything needs to be sensationalist.
Unfortunately that's exactly the kind of commentary that is constantly made and even expected on Slashdot. The origin of a statement of fact is always analyzed and rejected based on the funding of the person or organization making the statement. That's the way it is. Facts are refuted merely by villifying the party stating the fact due to the belief that the party was "paid to say that."
And a large number of "Palestinians" were born outside of the country in "refugee camps". Why didn't the neighboring countries accept the "refugees" as new citizens, integrating them into their friendly societies? Especially since the "refugees" were related by language, family (likely) and religion?
It feels kind of strange, but I've never had a Twitter account, and seem to be living okay without it. I have "consumed" postings, mostly from people who put their feed on their website or some such, but without an account of my own, it's hard to keep up with conversations or threads. From the article it sounds like I'm not really missing much. Maybe in 5 or so years I'll be fighting it out with a New Guinean tribesman as "the last man without a Twitter account".
There's an old Monty Python skit about taxes. Something about a tax board discussing taxing "thingy", meaning sex. After all, look at all the people out there having sex, using precious resources, and not paying for it? (other than the obvious). I mean, taxing sex would be most appropriate for any government, since they're all "parliaments of whores", anyway. Making us pay for everything we enjoy is part of their job description.
Interesting. I wonder if this is true for us old farts who were kids when the US and USSR were doing their above ground A-Bomb tests and were exposed to who knows what kind of fallout? Hell, if I could I'd be over there offering to haul food into the areas where local drivers refuse to go, near the edge of the evacuation zone (there are thousands of old people who can't be evacuated that are running out of food and water). I'm old enough that I'm not worried about 20-30 years effect of double background radiation, I'll be long gone before I'd kick off from cancer from something like this. I do know some Japanese language, and can read enough kanji to get by.
When I was in high school (in the early 70's, admittedly the dark ages) I learned how to parse sentences in two different classes: English and Latin. Learning how to parse a sentence to extract and identify the pieces was a skill that paid off when I had to learn about parsers and compilers in college. I agree that language skills are vital to practical software development, not just from the technical standpoint of writing logical software, but also from the political standpoint of understanding the requirements that the user expects the software to meet.
It gets old being told, either implicitly or explicitly, that I don't know what I'm talking about, just because the things I experienced or read weren't universally experienced or read. I got tired of it, and took it out on you. And yes, I am an asshole. Not all the time, but sometimes. I won't apologize for not deferring to your history, but I do apologize for the tone and manner of my disagreement.
Well, I never went to 3Com to get SLIP, and all the documentation I got at the time I downloaded it in the late 80s mentioned the ham radio tie-in. If no Hams ever used it because of their dislike for it, I guess that makes the documents I read lies, and me a liar for repeating them. Sorry.
I find the hypocrisy nauseatingly amusing. "Take the world by the balls and lead but don't do anything we don't want you to do."
Oh, and there were WMDs, if you do some research outside of your main media. There was a convoy of them that went into Syria. That doesn't fit the narrative of "evil imperialist US" though.
And they claim Americans are ignorant of the world.
Only the rubes here in the US were fooled, and a lot of people chose to ignore the fact that Obama came out of the Chicago political miasma. An honest Chicago politician is like a caring bureaucrat, or an understanding police officer, or a flying unicorn. Good luck finding one.
I love the "take the world by the balls and lead" part, there, seems like when a Republican tries to do that, the "Imperialist!" cries go up from the earnestly offended around the world.
Back in the old, old days there was this software called "SLIP" that was developed by Hams around the world. It stood for "Serial Line Internet Protocol" and was one of the first packages that let people connect to the Internet via their home modems. This was before PPP. SLIP was developed so Hams could transmit IP packets wirelessly around the world. Hm, wireless IP, I wonder where I've heard that before...

It makes the talk of a new Dark Age even more timely.
Does Yomiko Readman know about this?
Not to mention the horrors of withdrawal.

Well, they talk about "friends" with "private member functions".
Or Lex Luthor in the 70's "Superman" movie: "People are no damn good."

I know there are fanboys out there, but going to bed on your iPad? Serious. I'd crack the screen in minutes if I tried that.
But I did like some of their music...
And what makes you the expert on space colonies etc., that you can say they will never happen, ever?

An opinion can't be "proven" correct, so why do you demand someone "prove" their opinion?
Is that like "unveiled," or is it a new geekspeak word that I've not been made privy to?
Maybe it's a strange attraction...
I for one welcome our new Molybdenite masters...

Apparently according to him, there was no KA9Q package (that's the one I remember downloading) since Hams all hated SLIP.

It would be good enough for sitreps, messages to families, and even small GIF or JPEG files. Slow is better than nothing...

You mean "Look at all the evil greedy rich people that have all the money that they took from all the noble poor folks like me. "
