Sorry but after installing mozilla and doing some performance tests with dhtml, mozilla is about 70% slower than IE6 (p4 1g ram winXP) even in simple animations making practical dhtml worthless in it and flash seems more attractive by the day as this isnt dependant on a slow javascript and rendering engine, which would be a shame.
Load time isnt even an issue as its so slow even when its loaded.
Javascript to plugin communication still doesnt work out of the box (contrary to what the moz site says) at least ns4 supported it.
standards support is meaningless as no-one supports them , making it more of an "ideal" than a standard.
quote : "standards are great because there are so many to choose from"
i don't think m$ has anything to fear from mozilla in its current state, at least not in this decade:p
Surely this goes for most technology in the wrong hands, if genetic cloning and modifying got into the wrong hands imagine what terror you could do with superbugs and the like
or nanobots that deliver and contain deadly explosive triggers or toxins straight to the intended target
Surely a "Film" is a thin sheet or strip of flexible material, such as a cellulose derivative or a thermoplastic resin, coated with a photosensitive emulsion and used to make photographic negatives or transparencies.
wouldnt the correct terminology be a "motion picture" or "movie" be more appropriate as the definition of a Film implies its of a analogous nature as apposed to DVD's digital one,
personally i think its software as it needs an operating system in order to decode the digital "code" and its certainly is not hardware
To say minidisc's took off in the UK is rather nieve , a recent professional audio magazine here ran an article on minidisc and called a huge amount of mastering houses and studios to see if they mastered with minidisc, the result was a resounding 0 (nil) absolutly no studios mastered with them, why ?
well Atrac (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding for MiniDisc) is a very clever compression method that actually throws away a staggering 85% of the available input signal, this means that what you actually listen to on your player is only 15% of the original source, ATRAC is an audio coding system based on psychoacoustic principles , so as the average ear and brain is rather clever also, it can ignore the fact that 85% is missing and rebuild in your brain the missing 85% from the 15% available resulting in you hearing your latest and greates tune and saving space on a 2" disc.
Of course the more discerning listener can hear the fact that most of the nuances are missing and that the music sounds lifeless and dull, ARTRAC is basically Sony's answer to mp3 except technically worse, hence its failed as a professional format in any respects.
if you really cared about your listening experience minidisc is probably the worst thing you could listen to, even cassette with its antique encodings records more of the signal.
for those who would like a more technical description of the ATRAC format that can be found here
With numerous privacy concerns about Tivo sending encrypted data back to the "mothership" (viewing habits) even though they claim this is anonomous (then why encrypt it) just like doubleclick claim their data is "anonomous" yeah riiiight, this kind of data is like golddust to advertisers who will gladly pay big cash for it.
Personally iam glad Tivo as a company are screwed they can rot n hell with Aureate Doubleclick and the rest of the spyware companies , maybe people wised up that their Tivo was merely an excuse to put a hardware based user monitoring device directly into the home
Now it seems Sony have woken up to the fact that the user is a total idiot and is quite willing to give up his/her privacy for the sake of convience by merely having a 7page terms & conditions
whats also interesting is/. users who claim that they are privacy conscious and use military encryption to send emails to their momms think Tivo is a good idea and have bought one, i guess geeks are in Sonys target marketing area too
One of the reasons i choose s@A is because no commercial company is going to benefit from my processing (unless we are selling trips to meet he aliens) sure while searching for cancer, aids, cure to everything is very noble people seem to forget that these "cures" will be SOLD on the commercial capaltist market by [insert drug company name here] NOT for free
how much will you pay not to get cancer or Aids ?. hmm lucrative business egh
Allready we have had drug companies in the global courts over not allowing 3rd world poor companies (who we put in debt) who wanted to give these products to their people dying of aids and these wernt even cures !, just temp fixes, these drug companies didnt care wether 3rd world africa's people lived or died all they cared about was their profit margin
if we have this much trouble with drug companies who dont have a cure, imagine how much trouble we will have when they find a cure and the ensuing patents, trademarks etc another case of "pay up or die" and "the rich live, the poor die" even if they got the answer to their problems for free by using YOUR computer!
Something to think about while crunching data for that "cure to everything" for a major billion dollar drug company
dont forget it looked awful, looking like someone made it out of radioshack parts and a home electronics kit, gimme a tft screen with extra funky goodies and i might of bought it
Just imagine if Microsoft owned the hardware and the software like Apple !
oh yeah so they do
