if i remember correctly, after compiling oo2, it ran very well and fast. the precompiled bins were def slower. my guess is that these tests were run on a windows machine. so just switch to nix and compile, its that easy.
What if libraries housed open source software on servers and a person could bring in a device such as a laptop or a storage device that can connect to the local network to download files? This could potentially alleviate some bandwidth for people who develop open source software and mirrors (1 download to server, many downloads off the local network). It would also make for faster downloads. There are many ways you could expand on this idea... including, new jobs for experienced sys admins at libraries to monitor downloads to the servers.;b
Think about it... We all respond to things (good or bad). We enjoy it in fact, as humans. The high's and low's. I am not one for communism, and it sounds like to me that some of these ideas in the article are trying to LEVEL the playing field, so to speak. If you make everything even for people, how can someone achieve more than another person? It just won't happen. That's why I don't like that idea. Even if I achieve less than another person... I still can try to achieve more, I have the opportunity to achieve more. I hope I am not alone when I same I am a big believer in CHANGE (good or bad):)
That's my 99 cents on the matter.
the robot is either saying peace or cursing you out? init?
