Nothing is wrong with Toyota automobiles. It's the people driving them. Otherwise, they should ban all automobiles from roads for safety reasons. For the other problem, I wouldn't point only at Toyota. If they do it, most likely, all manufactures have hidden known problems. My old Nissan 300SX Turbo was a great example of a fine car onto which they stuck a turbo which essentially screwed-up the entire exhaust system. Today, there are practically no more cars with turbos (except for a few exceptions). I paid to fix the problems, not Nissan.

I don't understand the pertinence or relevance of open source hardware. When you purchase electronic components, you pay for the licensing costs of these components as part of the purchase price (in this case Atmel). What you do with these components, especially if you wish to market your product, is still subject to existing or prior patents - for example the plant hydrometer from TFA. I must be missing something so thank you for enlightening me.

Unfortunately War is being used as an euphemism for "hard fight against," "domination over" or "control of" rather than for the traditional meaning where one country attacks another to acquire its resources or a country forced to defend itself from an attack. War against crime, drugs, terrorism. It pleases those who are for it but also dilutes the meaning of war for those who have actually been in one.

In my opinion, if used to create fear or for political gain, it is obviously bull-shit and should be seen as so.

The solution to cyberwar/crime is very simple. Disconnect the US's from the rest of the world - just like Iran did. Some people probably think they might be better of this way.
