I think that everyone is clearly confused hence the sudden rise of Confucianism in the West as government no longer think religions should teach ethical behaviour.
So just to clear things up AFAIK: 1. All Catholics and Anglicans believe in Christ (the son of God) hence the are Christians. 2. Protestants also believe in Christ (the son of God). 3. Those who practice Judism are not Christians but have the same God. 4. Islamics are not Christians but have the same God as well. 5. Religions are mutually exclusive (so you cannot be both Jewish and Protestant) even if you have the same Gog. 6. Hinduism might also be Christians if their God had a battle royale and only one remained. 7. Buddhism are the laws of Buddah. 8. Animism typically give objects, animals, nature a certain divinity. Not sure about the spaghetti monster as he's both a monster and spaghetti. 9. Atheism, none of the above. 10. Agnostics, all of the above.
I think the savings in deployment and long term maintenance of these terminal units are just an illusion. 1. it simply switches the cost of the workstation maintenance to the back office as you need an immensely powerful data centre to drive thousands/tens of thousands of these terminals; 2. you still need a service desk as most requests we get are for new employee accounts and handling typical release incident; 3. people want to stay competitive and having a one size fits all typically prohibits one-offs, even if there is an obvious advantage; 4. problems affecting a cluster will affect everyone so you still need backup PCs for critical service delivery. It was a great idea when all you needed was amber on black text and typically only ran 3-4 applications but now people expect full multi-media experiences, web 2.0, and although terminals are able to a certain degree to deliver these, it is often awkward and demands more than a cheap disk-less unit.
You see, Canada's economy depends on the US - quite a bit of their exports go there. Now the US has this "buy American" law to help restore their economy by throwing out the door all their obligations under NAFTA. Canada is naturally pissed and looking for other trade partners. We have oil (or pertrol) - LOTS OF OIL - so the EU is likely to eventually remove that clause (even cars/trucks/aircrafts in the EU run on petrol). We are likely to come up with some compromise.
As a Canadian, I would argue that the leaked document in the article is probably naming "Canada" as a code name for the USA or maybe Turkey. If there will be a union with Canada it should probably be with Russia. We have more in common with Russia than with the EU. Canada would likely benefit from a closer union with Russia. At least until the US is back on its feet. We both share the same hemisphere, we are first and second largest countries in the world, we have similar views on copyright, and of course neither has ever lost a war against a foreign foe. Oh and we both play pretty good ice hockey. Sure, the Russian alphabet has more letters but Vodka solves everything. Soon Greenland will be independent and join our union. Given the current economy, the USA should probably see Alaska to China and be done with their foreign debt.
I'm sorry, did you just support blackmailing a mother and child?
As a father of three, I agree that there are lines to be drawn and illegal acts directed to individuals are grounds for revealing the identity of, in this case, the person who allegedly blackmailed a mother and child.
Remember this is a democratic country and laws are passed by elected individuals representing the people. If you believe this needs to be changed, get support and get elected then change the law.
Patents are not stupid. They are there for anyone to use. If you have great ideas for an invention, why not patent them? Believe it or not, the nuclear power aircraft patent belongs to Dick Feynman. Yeah but you do gotta love paperwork. Invent a better way to submit patent submission and patent that! We'll share the billions.
They didn't know which of the two Italians to trust. Removing one would have certainly upset the other and you don't wanna mess with Italians. Just in case (horse, bed, head... need I say more).
GIMP's distinctive UI is a breath of fresh air in the world of UI cloning. However, this is a guaranteed fail in terms of user acceptance. I believe that a single UI metaphor is essential, even if it means cloning the UI of other popular applications. Case to point if the UI would have been simpler, IMHO it probably would have been included in Ubuntu. It would also encourage more people to use it instead of Phøtøshøp.
Internet banking is 100% SSL/TLS based. On top of that, most banks, and services like Paypal offer B2B interfaces and APIs. This is not just a problem, this is adding a serious risk to all Internet based transactions. Obviously, Internet merchants and banks are going to downplay this publicly but security consultants just paid their next vacation in the Bahamas.
I doubt it is only a question of bad design. SQL was introduced as a general database query language. It was designed to offer a common way of connecting to data. With generalization however comes a trade-off. You lose a bit of control over how the data is extracted or presented. The trade-off is insignificant for say 98% of applications so people are mostly happy with SQL. When you hit insane number of transactions and/or need to manage terabytes of data, you might have to consider other options. This is why, analog computers still exist or why not everyone is using a COTS as their business systems.
I don't know about you but I enjoy playing with my monitor turned off. Especially Quake III Arena with the Excessive mod. All you need is the voice clues "You have taken the lead." or "You have lost the lead." The rest is pretty much irrelevant as long as you keep firing and listen for "beep" hit or "ughhh" been hit.
Funny but I've usually been quite pleased with the Genious selection. I'm more inclined to try Genious just because it makes it easier to put a list together. I can always manually 'improve' the list if a few songs don't fit. I'm not expecting perfection and neither should you. Although it would be interesting to see more obscure songs be suggested. Algorithms have to be based on something and that something contains some level of bias.
Clearly, God lives in the FFth dimension. Dimensions numbers are designed to be two byte fields. God never though anyone could ever need to use more than four dimensions.
Actually, they try to avoid the subject of dark matter. It is simply an unknown astrophysical phenomenon. Since they ran out of other possibilities, one could say that what ever remains, however unlikely is surely the truth (hence said a wise man). However, there are probably other researchers who will be able to further this discovery, determine the cause of the phenomenon and provide a non-darkmatterish explanation...just for your satisfaction of course.
Dude, someone has to tell people out there that the entire freak'n universe is radio active. Each single day, more people are killed by automobiles than by falling radio active satellites. I don't see anyone banning cars.
What's wrong with some healthy competition. Nasa is developing the nuclear powered Stirling engine so Russia instead decides to go Nuclear... as in submarine style. Without the USSR, men would not have walked on the moon. I say, go for it!
Sure they did consider suicide hijackings to be a threat. This was not new at all. They simply underestimated the willingness to pull it off or that it would have such an impact. Even the 911 terrorists themselves, I'm certain, were sure the towers would not fall as they did.
I consider cyberterrorism less of a threat to my health than drunk drivers are. Anyone who think otherwise, to me, is simply for self-interest purposes. It would simply feed the well known conspiracy theory that malware detection/removal companies are those who actually create so said malware.
So can we return our NVIDIA card because of that un-wanted feature? Choice to control our hardware should not be up to NVIDIA. The patch in question does not circumvent copy protection nor does it infringe on copyrights. This isn't an iPhone for goodness sake, it's a freaking computer. What's next, delete all registry entries under ATI?
I defined/interpreted faint hearted as NSFW and didn't click the link. Common sense failed you otherwise. Thanks for letting me know it was goatse. Now I'll definitively, send the article to my Australian friends in the office. However, it will likely be filtered.
I remember my old Timex Sinclair 1000 computer, looks almost identical to the new netbooks (minus the screen). What I do find interesting about the netbook craze is that people will soon realize that they really aren't that powerful. As a result, expect companies to increase RAM, performance, storage, weight, etc. and keep the price reasonable. Personally, I'm going to wait just a little longer so I can use it for wireless video streaming.
Given mortality rates being the highest for drivers 16-24, what would be a better alternative? Insurance rates for that age group are insanely high! So I think the insurance company, having to reduce its risk and still remain competitive, came-up with this idea. As a parent, I would definitively go for it. If my kid doesn't like it, let him/her pay the insurance.
PS/3 fan here. That is such a WASTE of such a fucking awesome machine. Saving lives is such a trivial objective when a PS/3 can bring instead WORLD PEACE! Nice to see a 360 that's actually working. Too bad they had to have it serviced over 9000 times already.
The fact that the police raided Sony is enough to convince me that this will not be like the USA. At least Mexico gives a shit about their artists as individuals. The suit wasn't be a Mexican RIAA but by the artist himself.

-1? Has Slashdot has lost all sense of humour? Mod OP up.

Or you can call them everyday, just in case, until they get the message. Make sure you only have a Commodore 64 with a tape drive.
