You couldn't trademark a word of the English language, in and of itself - it would't hold up in US courts. You trademark a logo, an artistically stylized version of the word. The mere word itself is off limits to IP hucksters. Then again, I guess I doubt anyone else could come up with a new game and call it, "Monopoly" (how fitting) or "Sorry", or "Uno", or whatever.. so.. I dunno.. well, IANAL after all.
Sorry if I missed the humor, it's kinda hard to tell sometimes. You're right there are a lot of pro-nuclear power slashdotters, but you won't find many saying, "Drill baby drill";)
Okay, then cool.. but I'd say they're halfway through phasing out their nuclear, not "beginning" as the article (or summary) suggested. And you can consider me right-wing (to a point), but I'm all for solar, if it does the job. The greatest known power source in the universe -a star- is right up there in our sky (so to speak), we should be able to utilize all that natural, nearly infinite energy somehow, preferably.

Oddly, In the IT world (for me, anyway), it's like backups more than it is IP security. No one where I work, except me, normally gives a rat's ass whether the backups work day to day (one of the things I'm responsible for); backups are given the lowest priority when applying troubleshooting resources, or updating gear, tech renewal, etc... But God forbid, something blow up or get deleted, and it's, "You have this backed up, right?! The sky will fall without this!"
Maybe I need to start pitching backups to the higher-ups as just another aspect of IT security.. after all, it is about protecting data.
You must be the only person on Earth that would equate the Slashdot hive mind with Fox news.
Ergo I really doubt you have any idea what you're on about. Also, the generalizations are just unfair.
It's key to note that Germany has exported the most electricity this year despite beginning to phase out nuclear. This bit of reporting sounds a bit slanted to me and designed to preclude the eventual outcome; the story would have a lot more meaning if Germany had had a record year of electricity exportation after most of their nuclear sites are offline. Then they'd really be proving something. And that would be great, but let's not count those chickens just yet. For the record, it's not a matter of me being anti-green, it's me just being cautiously realistic.
Personally I'd like a Note, but I don't think Verizon carries them yet.. so far, only AT&T and T-Mobile, AFAIK. (I'll have to double-check). My old Galaxy S1 throws fits from time to time.
It's not over for a lot of us on the Eastern seaboard of the US. Hurricane Sandy caused a postponement of the festivities in my state until as late as Monday.
Granted, Halloween will always be Oct 31, but you know what I mean. This is like the 6 days of Halloween this year.
On the first day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
A vampire bat in a dead tree
On the second day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
Two hairy spiders
and a vampire bat in a dead tree
On the third day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
Three eyeballs
Two hairy spiders
and a vampire bat in a dead tree
On the fourth day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
Four ghosts-a-moaning
Three eyeballs
Two hairy spiders
and a vampire bat in a dead tree
On the fifth day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
Five.. Walking.. Dead
Four ghosts-a-moaning
Three eyeballs
Two hairy spiders
and a vampire bat in a dead tree
On the sixth day of Halloween my dead love gave to me
Six spectres screaming
Five.. Walking.. Dead
Four ghosts-a-moaning
Three eyeballs
Two hairy spiders
and a vampire bat in a dead tree
I got a healthy dose of respect for carpentry when my brother helped me build soffits with recessed lighting when I redid my kitchen. There's a fair bit of math involved in it, from making the various angled mitre cuts, plus you have to allow for the thickness of the wood in your measurements too, nail lengths/widths, etc..it's easy for screw up. In retrospect, it all looks like common sense but hindsight is 20/20. Especially in an old house where nothing is modern standard!
In any case, the "he works with his hands" stigma is bullshit. Contractor type workers work with their heads too.
Maybe, but it's worth the risk: after all, for more sophisticated designs, direct nerd arrogance is typically more useful than alternating nerd arrogance.
BTW, thanks for the laugh, the 1.414 comment took me right back to Tech school. (I don't do electronics anymore though)
Yet the US constantly talks about bombing the Iranian people because of a dispute with the Iranian government
Valid Citation? I haven't heard or read any calls to "bomb the Iranian people". For that matter, I haven't heard any specific calls from the US to bomb anything.. they're still working with sanctions.
there are enough of them to constitute a majority of the Republican Party--which means that roughly half of the American political establishment is under the absolute control of these loons. Non-crazy Republicans, of whom there are still quite a few, have wilfully blinded themselves to this situation, and continue to vote to give the nutballs power.
Oh please, this is not representative of the majority of the republican party, it's just that loons get all the attention. It makes for great headlines.
There are far more "young earth" loons than I would like there to be, granted, but they're not the majority.
The key words here are "personal God". No, he didn't believe in a God that worried himself over the daily comings and goings of the human race, or one that listened to prayers; however, he did believe in some sort of metaphysical creator, and resented it when atheists misrepresented or misunderstood his position.
I agree with you on all but one major point- education. Many of the 9-11 hijackers were well educated. We also have a few college professors in the country who are extremist. So, it seems to be not all that great of a deterrent. I mean, it can't hurt, but I wouldn't put a lot of stock in it either.
When you're born and raised to adulthood in a certain mindset, specifically of a religious nature, it can be very, very hard to break free.
Because Democrats and environmentalists stop us from drilling anywhere new on our own land, or even setting up a pipeline from Canada, cause.. I dunno, it might rupture or something? It wasn't republicans who blocked the Keystone pipeline.
I'm sure I'm in the minority but years ago I stopped wearing watches because they just irritated the bejeebers outta me. It's all about the way I rest my forearms on the table I when I'm typing, the watchband would rub on the desk surface and generally get on my nerves. (I'm probably not using the "best" form in typing, but 20 years in and no carpal tunnel yet.) I kinda wish it didn't but it does. Plus these days, with computers around and cell phones, I always know the time anyway.
So this thing probably wouldn't work for me either, but, it is a neat concept I suppose. As to being implemented in a ring, it slightly reminds me of this specialty gizmo for guitarists.

so that's why kids wear them around their ass cheeks these days? :D

Hmm.. could give new meaning to head crabs. And the Combine actually turn out to be interstellar DEA agents..

Even aircraft carriers have a slew of smaller support ships that count.
That's Scientology
That's three ;-)
So that's what Obama meant when he promised more transparency in government!

Wow.. they're purty. More suitable for Easter than Halloween!
Not necessarily, I think the pendulum has swung the other way again, more recently.. at least, some.
And there's this, about their bite force, which suggests (but doesn't prove) predation:

They forgot step 5, "profit".
