Why am I not shocked that the *nix bent of this website (sadly) marked this as funny whereas if it was a joke about *nix it would have been marked 'troll' or 'irrelevant.' (As this post will surely be.)
...to the article are obsessing about his analogy between terrorists and Linux zealots as if the point of his article was to make Linux zealots look like murderers.
LOL. Of course they complain about that, it helps them ignore the valid points the guy is making (which, of course, can be applied to Windows zealots, Apple zealots, Amiga zealots, et cetera.)
"Zealots are bad."
Pros are fine, but rare, Priests are fine just don't try to convert a priest;).
Zealots are the worst aspect of the open source and Linux communities. They are, by definition, the worst aspect OF ANY COMMUNITY.
Seriously, read some of the inflamed reaction in the linked page's comments section, it is unbelievable.
Idiots... Zealots are hurting Linux's public image whether they realize it or not. People shirk away when I suggest Linux to run the back end of some aspects of our work because they instantly fear that I'm going to berate everything they say contrary to using *nix. This is not good for Linux, and keeps me stuck with deploying SQL F*cking Server.
.. I just did. The link about how "users like" that crap has a spokesperson contact number. Remind them that the Internet is just a teeny bit larger than the WWW and applications other than web clients use DNS and expect certain responses to certain errors.
Dear God you're right. Wait, someone's knocking at the door. I looked out the window and noticed they're all wearing "Got Root?" T-shirts and black masks with ascii binary on it that says "You are dumb"... Gotta go!
The sad thing is, he could be completely objective, and if he was thorough, I believe he would illuminate how the 2 OSes are just simply different. Made for different purposes, used by (usually) different types of people, for different reasons.
Linux is wonderful, and at the same time, 2000/XP Pro is also wonderful.
He spends his time bashing an OS by crapping on the browser and the e-mail support, LOL. He blissfully ignores the fact that you can (like I do) use Mozilla if you wish ON XP. It is like a Windows user bitching that Linux is crap because he doesn't like using Pine for e-mail. Come on, that guy would be almost as big an idiot as RobLimo.
I'm pretty sure that all SGI sold them were patents covering IP discovered while SGI worked with Nintendo and MS bought them just prior to the release of the XBox. AFAIK OpenGL still belongs to SGI and the ARB.
...the membership and the various personnel who manage the site could be relied upon to at least be a little objective; however, in the past 2 years, the mere mention of the word Microsoft signifies evil. Of course, I don't care if people don't like Microsoft, I don't much care for them myself, but it pisses me off to see how stupid a headline the managers of this site will allow to be posted. Do you wish to be known as a *nix only website rather than a *geek website? FFS, "Microsoft worms CRASH OHIO NUKE PLANT, MD TRAINS."
Does Slashdot really want to become a sensationalist news source (ergo, not a news source)?
CowboyNeal will probably say, "heh, we didn't pick the title, we want to give people a chance to exercise those 1st amendment rights, especially opinion", well, if so, you should post everyone's submissions otherwise you are advocating a particular viewpoint (unless the same story is submitted by other people.) I know for a fact that Slashdot's managers prune articles they subjectively dislike and label them 'duplicates or redundant' even though they are not.
If they refuse to recompensate you in some way (not even making an effort in totally unacceptable), you should walk. It's sort of like sex. After they've f***ed you the first time, it only gets easier. Try to approach management as a group as well. Individuals who try to approach management on the behalf of weak-willed or non-confrontational employees (for their own good) will only get crucified for their efforts and identify to management who they can walk all over and who they cannot.
This is one of those very important life decisions where you need to decide, "is it worth damaging my reputation with my boss(es) over something I think is wrong." The answer isn't cut and dried. You're not a coward, especially not in this economy, for saying no to that question.
Ultimately, you need to do what you will be happy with. In my case, I'd approach management with the tenet that my ace in the hole is walking right out the door after two weeks of sleeping...
.lawsuit. This is the easiest way to do it. Throw cash at SCO, SCO continues disrupting the Linux/IBM/*nix community because MS has given it the money to hire 40 more lawyers...
BTW, the only place (this was a joking troll that someone like you would fall for, but seemed to miss) Explorer is the 'best' browser on, is WinDoze. As for deviation, uhhh, are you suggesting that Netscape doesn't deviate? When's the last time (or, lol, the first time) you saw Netscape render a table correctly. LOL... Simple fact is, as much as I don't like it personally, IE is the best browser for Windows hands down. You try writing JSP, taglibs, and Servlets that don't puke on Netscape, hehe...
Uh, no, 'dolt', it is free. The versions that exist for the Macintosh don't come installed on windows 'dolt'. LOL... IE 6 doesn't come with Win2000, but I can get it for free 'dolt'... rotfl...
Exactly. Linux lovers (of which I am one) need to simply ignore MS and stop obsessing over the whys and hows of MS' success. If Linux is better (and in many important roles it is FAR better), it will win eventually because it is free. Now, if that changes (ahem, RedHat look out...) who knows...
...why take notice now?

Perfect verbage. Just had to give you kudos.

ROTFL...

...anything but IA32 yet...?
It used to only be faster because of some IA32 explicit advantages, otherwise HyperQueues is the same as another messaging method.
Pretty cool...
The article states that the boom is reduced because the merging of the pressure waves does not combine into a shock wave(s) as readily.
There is still a sonic boom.
Was M$ disputing the e-mails produced (I ASSume) by Burst? If so, that would make them dumber than usual in the courtroom.

LOL...
Table football is not Foosball in Europe, it is a game played with miniatures, called Subbuteo.
a company (I forget) makes them, they are called "Holoscreens". Our company is looking at buying some 110" screens they make.

It was partly a humorous troll ;) and partly to prove a point that just because MS gives away stuff for free doesn't mean 'free like cocaine'.
