Seriously, did you watch the first 10 seconds of the video and come to your conclusion based on the fact that your car got rained on? You can see water rushing into the room from the hall. This is inside a building, I can't imagine how fast the water must have been moving outside.
They are still paying a slew of other WA state taxes. They are just not paying licensing taxes in WA. They are a big corporation, they are taxed in every jurisdiction they operate in. Are you so naive to think that all sales from MS come directly from WA and conversely use resources/infrastructure provide by the state of WA?
Or instead of moving to Russia, they could just move to Nevada where there is no tax on licenses and they have all the utilities you seem to think only exist in WA. By the way, it is the license tax that the article is talking about. I work large commercial construction, guess who pays for all the infrastructure upgrades when you build big commercial/industrial projects. If you say the State or even the local government you will get a big fat F-. It is the company that is building.
Maybe you could pull your head from your socialist ass and suggest that the State exercise some financial responsibility.
I will post in the best slashdot etiquette possible. hmm... two evil empires, the State gov. or MS. In a landslide I would choose MS every time in this situation. I don't have to pay the so called MS tax if I don't want. I don't get that choice at all when it comes to the State. The States (not just WA) spend WAAAY more then the take from us. Yes all you liberal do gooders, I said take. Add up the taxes you pay sometime. Don't forget to include all the 'extra' taxes you pay with your post tax wages. WA crying like a little bitch is the ultimate 'no personal responsibility" claim I have heard.
They, meaning all the States, must stop spending more then they have. Take a hard look at bloated employment roles, excessive pension/health care plans, failed social programs and tighten the belt like everyone else must.
If I were MS, I would tell WA to pound f'ing sand and move my entire operation to Nevada. Then let's see how big their deficit would be.
To all the people that voted him in, reap what you sow. It all sounds good until the come for the company that you 'like'. Then what are you going to do?
I used to be that guy, always sold my good used 'toys' on Ebay. Not anymore, and it wasn't the competition from the power sellers that made me stop, it was Ebay with their constant upping of fees. By the way, all my auctions always said "no paypal accepted, money orders only." Why? Paypal cost me money. I sell everything on Craigslist now. Why do you think Ebay went after them? Ebay knows Craigslist is what they used to be.
How many similar posts do we need to see? The market is not Ebay/Paypal. Are we looking for competing online auctions with single source payment options?
The market is online auctions period. Stop lumping them together. If you don't like one for any reason, don't use it.
So much for making a little 'no tax' cash on the worlds largest garage sale.
That is the misconception that Ebay would like you to have. That is what they used to be, quaint homey, like a big 'garage' sale. That is not what they have become, they are just another mega-corp that has one thing in mind. Growth.
Your point is well made, but I think the real answer is to not do business with Ebay. Ebay is the one basically forcing you to use Paypal. While I agree there are not a lot of payment options in this space, I believe that your options lie in multiple places to sell you goods.
I am not a big fan of social anything, but I actually registered on face book and downloaded the wordscraper client. I did this in my way of protest to Hasbro and their heavy handed stupidity. With that being said, the wordscraper client is buggy (it is in beta to be fair) but it sure is fun.
How could a company like Hasbro, hiring a company like EA mess up something that should be relatively easy to convert into a program. I am not a programmer, but I would think that a game like Scrabble would be easy to make into an online game. Certainly easier then something like Age of Conan.
Yay your post is redundant shows a complete adoption of Slashdot rules and the blind idiocy of the moderators. Don't read the article, don't even read the previous 10 posts that explain how this is not a free market. Thanks for your insight and your ridiculous comparison.
OK Mr. Analogy man, lets see if you can clear up this one. Let's say you are a bricklayer who also writes music AND built a brick house for a famous musician that you also co-recorded a top ten hit with. Let's also say for the sake of clarity that the house is filled with old barber shop memorabilia. Now who gets paid and how much?
In my experience, working for a company that sells and installs POS systems and DVR Surveillance systems at gas stations, most POS system data is easily accessible. Most systems we have worked with have 9-pin serial (now most are USB) receipt printers. When hooking up a DVR system we will tap into the serial feed and import the sales data so that we can overlay it on the images captured from the cameras pointed at the POS terminal.
This is obviously a 'real time' capture situation. Depending on the POS vendor, other options exist for retrieving sales data at end of shift/end of day.
Ahh, but the problem Ryan, is that I have a patent on that idea already and you are in violation of *IAA, DCMA, copyright violation, IP transgressions and various other egregious and flagrant affronts to my idea.
Just think of all the patent lawsuits that will crawl from beneath the rocks when some does come up with a way to successfully teleport.
I am so sick of this drivel. It is always the same. Someone comes up with some 'solution' that is the perfect "insert you own MS product" that will be killed by open source. Think about it people. If it so good, guess what, MS is going to either steal it or buy it. Look at Hotmail. They are the borg, and I have had too much vodka. enjoy.
We developed these bulbs many years ago, but since these bulbs require us to retool and have a lower profit margin for us we decided not to introduce them until we had market pressure. Welcome to capitalism.
Your bend over attitude is sickening. You call the legislation extreme, yet hope it goes through, but only with provisions. Where do you stand on DRM? Why don't we just shred the remainder of the constitution?
This is yet another erosion of my/your/our rights. What will be next? No spanking your own children? Or maybe no smoking in your own house? How about no drinking alcohol? What right is it that you hold dear where you will finally take a stand?
For the record, I have all CF bulbs in my house. Not because some ass-wad politician is out to protect the environment/make a name for himself/receive money from the fluorescent lobby or all of the above, but because I know that they will save me money. Also because I am lazy and don't like changing light bulbs.
Do not look to the government to spoon feed you and take care of you. Grow a set and take care of yourself.
I am going way back with this reference, so unless some other old farts have some moderation points... oh well. It reminds me of the episode of WKRP (Old TV show with Lonnie Anderson) where the radio station does a promo around Thanksgiving where they give away turkeys. They do so by dropping live turkeys from a helicopter. Well the joke is that turkeys don't fly and a bunch of listeners get hurt when the turkeys land on them.
My opinion, and I have watched laywer programs on TV (LA Law, as long as I am dating my self), is that the station is liable. They should have checked the facts BEFORE they ran the contest. I can't wait to here the spin coming from them.
Either you got a bunch of racing titles as part of a bundle or you like them. If it is the later, give Project Gotham Racing a try. I know the title is lame. You are not racing in the bat mobile, it is a very good title.

Maybe that is because the taxes just kept getting higher since the politicians knew they had the populace by the balls.
Or instead of moving to Russia, they could just move to Nevada where there is no tax on licenses and they have all the utilities you seem to think only exist in WA. Are you saying that Ebay may be attacked by pirates?
craigslist.org - It is what Ebay was

Well everyone knows (at least here in the US) that we are planning on invading Cananda soon. Either that or Google will invade Canada.

footnote - The lameness filter is lame on slashdot. I originally submitted the above in all caps because it was funnier.
