    C++9x was released as C++98 in 1998 as the first C++ standard and they agreed on what will be in the C++0x standard a few months ago.

    so C++9x happened, and C++0x is about to happen, not sure what your rant on those was about.

    I too expect there to be a C++1x, but that'll just be the new standard, C++ isn't a dead language it still gets improvements.

    You're not counting correctly. You missed windows 98, and windows 98SE, which would make windows 2000 windows 7!

    however, when you look at the version number reported in XP it is 5.1 2000 was 5.0

    vista is likely to be 6.0 so they could make the next one 7, although from what they've said about it so far it should really be 6.1

    Probably not IIRC you need a quantum computer with enough bits to hold the number you're trying to factor, so that'll need over a thousand bits for most encryption in use today.

    it also seems pretty hard to add more bits to these quantum computers, so it looks like traditional encryption might be here to stay after all.

    Which works just fine without 2 way traffic, that's just your settop box choosing a different video stream in the channel and accessing extra data in the stream (just like good old ceefax, you're NOT communicating with some device at the BBC).

    cpu frequency: 4Mhz vs 2Ghz, improvement 500x

    C64 was .99something Mhz, lets say it was 1, so that's a 2000x improvement, more if you count IPC!

    Not if they just send the same to 5 people, and pick the most popular result as correct, massive use of bots could give them some nasty surprises if they do that though!

    You're in for a long wait, the development model changed and now 2.6.x is unstable, 2.6.x.y is bugfixes, so the latest 'stable' version is 2.6.x.y where x is one lower than the current development version and y is the highest you can find. 2.7 can be years away, if it ever happens at all.
