Somehow he finds time to write novels while running a very insightful blog, writing a column for Byte, keeping active in the amatuer aerospace community, and generally having a life. I don't know how he does it, epecially at his age.
He proves that blogs and more, the internet, can coexist with real life(tm) (for authors at least).
Personally I'm to the point now where I'm so sick of Microsoft hegemony that I don't care if RedHat engages in similar predatory practices as long as MS goes down. I'll support RedHat even if they were a monopoly, because at least the technology inside is good and it's not MS snake oil.
Roll your statement back 20 years:

Actually, in this case it's a great idea. The game world is bounded by walls, so you can put the walls in the 0 index (and the width+1 index) of your array and not have to explicitly test for the array bounds. Treat them like any other wall.
Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks.
A choice quote: I won't waste any time in saying that Attack Of The Clones is the most remarkable Star Wars film to date.
It not only breathes new life into the series, but it brings us back to the original magic that made Star Wars
a cultural phenomenon. It is ultimately the Empire Strikes Back of this new saga, that takes us to the
darkest corners of the Star Wars universe, as we come face-to-face with the master plan of Darth Sidious.
We have around sixty ~400MHz desktops which are increasingly showing their age. What apps are you running that is causing them to show their age? With sufficient memory, P2-400's are still plenty fast for office apps and email.
Personally, I'd spend my money on a 256MB stick of SDRAM and some time to reinstall the OS.
I thought it was interesting that the author said that more people where adding DVD players and surround sound speakers to their home computer in hopes of makeing it their new home theater. I think a lot of people are bringing their computer to the home theater in the family or media room and converging it that way.
One of the best sources for info on how to build and tune a Home Theater PC (HTPC) is the AVSForum
They have an excellent FAQ, a dedicated HTPC forum, and lots of pros.
Ars has a good editorial in response to the CNET article.
At the end of my Crusoe article, I predicted that TM would eventually announce a workstation-class chip. It's been a little over a year and this still hasn't happened, but I remain convinced that they're working on just such a project.
Firingsquad has an excellent review comparing dual Durons to dual Thunderbirds using both Palamino and non- versions of both chips. They conclude that the Palamino Duron is the best bang for the buck.
Our results showed that Linux pipes are considerably faster than Windows 2000 named pipes, and Windows 2000 named pipes are much faster than Windows XP named pipes
I wonder how much of that data is redundant?
:)
specifically, this one
Hilarious! Thanks!
I don't see that anyone's mentioned Jerry Pournelle yet.

Minidisc??
:)
Why not something solid-state, like MP3 or OGG?
Built in 802.11b would be cool, too, so you could download new songs while waiting on the chairlift

Coordinates on the board are pairs of integers, ranging from (1,1) to (width, height), where (1,1) is the southwest corner of the board.
What kind of programming challenge uses a one-based array?
How about Core Wars?
Buy it from Amazon and eff 'em both.
Ron Epstein, owner of the Home Theater Forum has a good review online.

A Dog Year is the top Mover on Amazon at the moment. It's up 1730%.

However, please note that right now I'm giving higher priority to fixing problems than to writing extended changelogs.
Poor/Incomplete/Out of date documentation is the Achilles Heel of open source.
/XX notation is known as Classless Inter-Domain Routing, and as always, consult the Oracle
Dumb question... mostly OT
There are no stupid questions; only stupid answers.

however, I note that quite frequently, the resulting moderation is something other than was selected . . . and not always in the correct direction
:)
I've made crack-addled moderations by leaving the focus on the drop-down and hitting the cursor/page down keys before submitting.
oh well, it was funnier with the "Informative" tag
funny, but whomever modded that up as "Informative" is smoking crack.

Cenatek may make exactly what you're looking for. It's a PCI card, and uses standard SDRAM sticks.
From their site:
The Rocket Drive stores data in memory modules (standard dynamic random access memory, or DRAM) rather than on magnetic media.
From reading the various reviews, the Athlon XP doesn't seem to have SMP capability.
Are the Athlon XP and Athlon MP essentially two lines now? It sucks to see AMD succumb to marketing in order to combat Intel.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
The biggest one in NorCal is Lantrocity, in Sacramento. They put on a good party (I've been to a few).
I also help run a midsize (50-80) bimonthly lanparty in Modesto, about 90 minutes from downtown SF.
I went to the last three BANGG events, and they were good, but very irregular.
