  1. Re:During my travels in China... on China Shuts Down 17,000 Internet Bars · · Score: 1

It's a shame they didn't learn from their last attempt at building a wall :).
I feel sympathy for those who are stuck with repressive governments, but what China has is probably a hell of a lot better than what they would have if their house of cards fell like the Soviet Union.
I wish the Chinese government the best of luck in suppressing the spread of "dissident" information. They'll need it ;).

  2. California responses... on Is Your Elected Official Really Listening? · · Score: 1

Diane Feinstein at least reads her email (I got a personal reply from her this week), Sen. Boxter doesn't seem to want to respond to anything.
Still trying to get something through to Rep. Honda, although I have no idea how he will respond.

  3. Re:Making it available means lost revenue on The America Online Protocol Revealed · · Score: 1

Actually, it doesn't surprise me that they don't make it available. If they release that information, they lose an edge they have on joe average as an entry level computer user. How many times have you talked to someone who wanted to show you something that was on the 'internet' and in reality, it was something that was on a section of AOL?

    Actually, NEVER!

What do you call the siege of Iraq? Do you think anyone important to Hussein is going to starve?

  5. Foreign Policy deja vu on Hackers: Uncle Sam Wants You! · · Score: 4, Redundant

Wow, this sounds like our foreign policy.

Step 1: Fight those bad people.

Step 2: Hey, they could be useful to us.

Step 3: Let's give them tools and have them fight our war for us. Call CNN and let them know about these freedom fighters

Step 4: Hmmmm, they aren't useful to us anymore. Better call CNN and tell them to start calling them bad people again. At least we know who they are now.

Even as a White American Imperialist I caught the wisdom comment. It figures that a Limey would mouth such racist bullpucky! ;) Eastern civ is different from the west, but was sophisticated even before the Europeans had barely crawled out of their caves (so to speak). Corporations are law-abiding? , *giggle*, *guffaw*. Maybe for the laws they get created. Jeez, I hope you were trolling or speaking tongue-in-cheek.

  7. Use Chinese for English Data compression! on Why Unicode Won't Work on the Internet · · Score: 2

Actually, if you wanted to, you could write English/German/French/Spanish using Chinese! It would actually be fairly simple, one Chinese character == one English word. Just have the display program figure it out, ie translate the Unicode Chinese into the English/French/etc.. Achieve instant 50% or greater data compression. It's the perfect compression solution for us bandwidth-sucking Westerners! No verb tense or plurals? Don't need it! It's all fluff anyway! I'm only 1/4 joking...
