Also, why 2cm? Might as well just make it touching, since it's less than an inch anyway. That way, if you accidentally set them next to each other on your desk and don't want them to communicate they won't unless they're touching. And, what happens when you accidentally put them 3cm, or 4cm apart from each other? Do they communicate at all? Or do the communications break down and only partially transfer info?
Psst. I did RTFA. 2cm or touching, what the hell is the difference? My point still stands. Your point doesn't. Get a clue. I won't consider truly wireless unless I can connect from the very least across the room. Whoever modded your post up is inexcusable, as are you for being a nitwit.
But really... radio-frequency identification... Shouldn't the radio part of that imply wireless? If they have to be touched, that to me just seems like having wires. Albiet really short ones, but you get the idea.
Or better yet, not just physical activity but some learning too.
I didn't RTFA yet, but it seems that in the near future it might be easier to have robots to communicate (albiet, possibly simple communications) with than to have robots that can run around, play ball, that kind of thing.
CRT won't die until the price of LCD's go down (which this could help) and maybe more importantly, when the quality of LCD's (color depth/range, "refresh rates" etc) matches CRTs.
But if the object is broken up, it increases surface area, and the smaller parts will burn up at a faster rate than as if it were a whole piece, wouldn't they?
Also, wouldn't these smaller parts have the potential to have a much slower terminal velocity? Sure, it might not have time to slow down to terminal velocity speeds, but you never know.
Of course, it all depends on where it breaks up. If it's a loosely enough packed ball of rubble, the gravity of earth may break it up before it even reaches our atmosphere. Also, depending on where it breaks up, parts may go into the ocean that would have landed on land and vice versa.
BTW, I have absolutely no idea if what I'm saying is in any way based on fact or even following any form of logic.
I'm sure they'll be lots of other people willing to work on such a project,
Yeah.... seeing as you're doing such a great job with spelling and grammar, I'll put my money on you to save the planet.

Ah, sorry. I enjoy the Pixies, and happened to be listening to Doolittle at the moment, but I'm not a huge fan or know a whole lot about them.

If you're going to quote a Pixies song, get it right.
If man is 5, if man is 5, if man is 5,
Then the devil is 6, then the devil is 6, then the devil is 6, then the devil is 6, then the devil is 6,
And if the devil is six then god is 7, then god is seven, then god is seven.
This monkey's gone to heaven.
I think it's a great idea too, provided non-americans get their heads out of their asses and stop making stupid posts just to hear themselves sound cool.
Okay, so take the added weight which means added cost and possibly more things to wrong. Those wipers are going to take electricity, electricity supplied by those solar panels. What happens when the solar panels get scratched the first time, rendering the rover unusable? Now, I understand that you seem to be implying that you use the wipers only when it gets bad enough that they need to be used. However, should the wipers scratch the panels enough to render them unusable, you've just wasted some money bringing those panels up. Even if they work a few times, or even once, the cost might not be worth it and might be better off being put towards a new rover or some other NASA project.
I'll say it again, the engineers and the scientists, who know a hell of a lot more on the subject have most likely thought of wipers and ruled against it in good judgement.
The first thing that springs to mind is that any kind of wiper wiping dust across could scratch the panels
Wipers are also one more (well, more than one) mechanical part to go wrong, and also add weight.
Perhaps radiation, and other things would limit the life of the rover to just over 3 months and the wipers were deemed unnecessary. Basically what you're saying in the last paragraph.
The most likely scenario is that the scientists and engineers, with much more knowledge and experience in this type of thing know what they're doing and have determined for some reason wipers aren't a possibility. I highly doubt it's something they've overlooked.
I'm 22 and have used encyclopedias quite a bit in my short time. Encyclopedias (at least at my school) were generally considered much better reference matierial than websites.
Since I know longer need to write research papers or anything of the like however, I haven't really had a need for an encyclopedia.
MOD PARENT DOWN!!! He's giving away our secrets! If too many people know about this there won't be enough room on the ships for those of us enlightened ones!

But I bet it tastes better...
I don't think they'd panic. I think they'd just say that if the world were running Linux we'd win.
Either way, I say they just send up Jeff Goldblum in this remake with a MacOS virus up to the martian's mothership and we'll all be saved.
Don't laugh, in 50 years you may very well be taking your grandkids to a remake of Star Wars..
I'm tempted to think a remake of any of the new Star Wars could only be a good thing....

It's not that the schools have failed, it's just that Matrix has won. Or was it the terrorists? Ahh, forget it.

What about all the come that comes across your desk?
I think you mean what matters is Real Ultimate Power.
In the future, your computer will:
1) Be a mammal.
2) Fight ALL the time.
3) Flip out and kill people.
Wouldn't that make him a Mexicon?

Yeah, maybe they could have a pay-per view special to fund the costs.

There is probably more than one answer/reason.
The first thing that springs to mind is that any kind of wiper wiping dust across could scratch the panels

Nah, there's already enough bad posts here, no sense in making them worse.
No, you didn't. And the world would have been a better place had you not.
