  1. Comparing with what? on NIST Wants An Electronic Kilogram · · Score: 1

I really find it strange that say that the standard mass doesn't always weight the same.

Why do they think that is the mass that changed and not the machine (whatever they use) they're using to measure it that is innacurate. If they believe the machine is more accurate than the standard mass then drop it and use the machine.

A standard must be something that you cannot argue about. If it weights different then ajust what you use to weight it. Because if you don't trust the standard them it doesn't fullfill any purpose.

  2. Atom based mass standard on NIST Wants An Electronic Kilogram · · Score: 1

Wouldn't it be easier to define a kilogram like the mass of 'n' carbon atoms (or whatever).

  3. Future View on Wireless Freenets As The Parasitic Grid · · Score: 1

The interesting thing about this type of network access is that eventually everyone will be a part of the wireless network and the Internet as we know it will no longer be necessary.

Think about it: Free, quick and mobile connectivity for everyone!

  4. Illegal vs Copyright on Aussie ISP Scans Downloads For Copyright Violation · · Score: 1

The article really talks more in terms of illegal content than Copyrighted material.

So it wouldn't be a problem to download New York Times online articles.

  6. Not what it says! on Why Redhat Choose ext3 For 7.2 · · Score: 5, Informative
I wonder if who posted this article even read the original one.

The article at LinuxToday isn't about RedHat prefering ext3 over other journaling filesystems. It's merely an explaination of why they decided to include ext3 in the new RedHat 7.2.

... I wrote up a short piece that I hope to flesh out a bit more later on why Red Hat chose to include ext3 in this release ...

The only comparison made is between ext3 and ext2 where they explain the advantages of a journaling system.

  7. School oriented distribution on Linux Win In Schools · · Score: 1

A school oriented Linux distribution, with only the basic stuff installed (Browser, mail reader, office application, ...) would be nice.

  8. The way to beat windoze? on Linux Win In Schools · · Score: 1

One of the main reasons Linux isn't so popular amongst the average users is that that they are used to windoze since they use it in school.

If more schools start providing Linux environments to their students we might end up with a larger Linux users population than Gates would like.

  9. Re:loading slashdot?... on Linux: Browser Wars · · Score: 1

Netscape 4.7x might be faster than mozilla. But the advantages of having a browser that can show part of a page while the other only shows something when the page is complete (this happens in Netscape if you have table tags around the whole site) are enormous.

I liked to see those figures in terms of the time it took for the first article to be shown.

  10. Re:advantages of a smaller disk on New Philips eXpanium Will Use 3" CDs · · Score: 1

Still I don't understand the advantage of this over memory cards based MP3 players:

    - Small Player: the last are smaller
    - Lower Power Consuption: Having no moving parts, normal MP3 players have lower power consuption
    - Low Cost Media: As you have said 2 disks should be enough so it's not a big problem as memory cards are rewritable
