    I'm sorry, but we need to start colonizing other planets. Our whole economy and culture is based on growth, and we're running out of places to grow.

    The aborigenese of the south pacific isles used to leave "usefull" seeds on every deserted island they landed on. That way, if anyone else ever got there a few years later, they'd have something to eat or heal them there.

    Mars seems lifeless, so does europa. Lets start introducing life there, an that way when we're getting ready to move there, the terraforming job will already be well on its way.

    Its not like we've found precious ecosystems we should protect! They seem lifeless! Barren! If there are life-forsm there, they aren't thriving, maybe a competitor or two would do 'em good. Maybe they'll eat the things we send there and it'll jump-start the ecosystem!

    Survival of the fittest.

    Here in the ungodly foreign parts (Canada...look it up), we already have a company that can give you phone+TV+DSL, but the CRTC (Canada's FCC) won't let 'em charge everything in separate bills, or all in one bill. (sorry, I didn't quite understand it when I signed in, and I'm still not sure.)

    Personally, it annoys me. I have to pay my DSL in a lump sum with my phone, and I wish I could have a separate bill for it. That way, I could more easily figure out what I pay for the phone, and what I pay for internet (and dish TV if I had that).
    I don't trust 'em ya see...sneaky bastards keep trying to get me on their call waiting scheme...

    Flood 'em with emails requesting, nay, DEMANDING that the tick be put on right after Futurama, and that they divulged the top secret time slot of futurama while they're at it?

    You know a show is about to die when they change its time slot around everyweek until NO ONE knows when its on.
    I'm convinced its some stupid internal rivalry between execs...killing one guy's show because he drank the last cup of punch at the xmas party and whatnot.

    Try compressing a wav or mpeg file with gzip. Doesn't work too well, becuase the data is "random"

    Mpeg don't compress well because they already compressed!

    try .zipping a .zip file while you're at it...

    Actually, no. I've finished it already, and now I'm having fun playing around with it (I'm trying to finish it with a clean conscience, not killing anyone). I'm not waiting months for a port.

    What would make me pissed would be to have to play it with that monstrous Xcontroller...

    Seeing how the article makes blatant mistakes (the PS2 does not, in fact, require an extr remote to play DVD, nor does it require extra consoles to play with more than two players, its got an optionnal multi-tap for that), I'm wondering how many more subtle mistakes it makes in the less easily verified points: Numbers, architecture descriptions, etc.

    And I reiterate: The GAMES are the important thing.
    Xbox has nothing worth buying it (ooo, halo, big freakin' deal) while PS2 has Metal Gear Solid 2 (greates game of all time???), the Game Cube has super monkey ball (come on! A monkey in a ball? You can't get any more fun!), an pikmin and more coming.

    I bought a PS2...I'm thingking about a game cube, but xbox is NOT interesting.

    I'm amazed by Photoshop's price.
    At 500 dollars (?) it's selling enough to make Adobe a lot of money, but everyone I know who has a computer has an illegal copy of Photoshop!

    Now, cut the price to 10% of what it is now, and you're SURE to sell over 100 times more copies!

    Divide price by 10 and get 10 times the profit.
    WHY don't they do it?
    Is it some obscure price-range to try to keep it a professional product? Sheer stupidity? A satanic plot to ensure that a lot of people "steal" from them and thus are turned to the dark side?

    The thing is, people who just take copies of software and sample it don't bother me in the least. What does bother me is the people who are resellers of piratted software. They make a profit from the work of others without compensating the people who did the work. Now THAT is stealing.

    If they had stolen the tea and sold it to people for a profit, no tax, no compensation to the producers, that would have been very different from chugging it in the harbor.

    When you make illegal opies of software, you refrain from giving someone money.

    There is a big difference between taking your pants away and not giving you extra pants.

    (A friend of mine recently had his shorts stolen on a beach on vacation...forgive the analogy)

    I'm sorry, but Starship Troopers had very believable monsters. Of course, exoskeletons are easier to do than skin, but that's just using the technology smartly :)
