And why exactly do you think you give out the cheap wine after the guests have "well drunk?" Like most Jewish (and non-Jewish) weddings then and now the guests were likely drunk, and the Bible seems to imply this, depending on how you read it. Other passages say not to get drunk. Take from this what you will.
If the I/O prioritization in Vista was actually used (slash worked since I have no idea whether it works because nobody uses it, inc. MS), updates could be neatly installed in the background without impacting what you're doing. That would be my preference, except when on batteries.
Has anyone actually used Vista's I/O prioritization? I can't even figure out how to use it manually. Every process I've seen (including indexing service) runs at the same pri AFAIK.
Umm, which store is this that sells M-rated games to minors? For at least that long (about ten years), all major retailers have refused to sell M-rated games to minors. I've never seen any retailer do that, although I'm sure it's happened before. It's hard when the guys working the counter at the store are also fifteen and their friends come in.
Besides kids don't have any money. Their parents are the ones buying the games for them. You can't criminalize that. If a kid is old enough to earn hundeds of dollars a year then he's old enough to buy whatever video games he wants.
Video stores aside (none of them will sell R-rated movies to kids anyways), there are laws in some jurisdictions (North Texas comes to mind) that make it illegal for minors to see R-rated movies without their parents. I don't know if it's also illegal to sell the tickets, but I have seen theaters go out of their way to prevent sales, and the police occasionally enforce the age restrictions at the door.
Umm, he's not fired. He intends to serve out the rest of his term and not seek re-election. And he's not resigning because he is or isn't gay; he's resigning because he plead guilty to a crime, but mostly for making his party/state/whatever look bad. It's not like he just "came out" and was fired all of the sudden.
But I thought at least 1GB had to be reserved for kernel space. I see the PAE thing, but can user space applications actually use the memory above 3GB?
Yes. I think shopping exclusively at Wal*Mart would take care of that. Save for those Makin' Bacon pans. Don't buy those, they're American. Bonus points if you get the reference.
So pretend you're someone who does want to watch HD-DVDs on your PC. You'd rather make use of the "drivers" the MPAA writes?
Besides we're not dealing with reasonable people here. I highly doubt a Microsoft refusal to incorporate DRM would result in anything other than no HD-DVD support on Windows. Mac OS will have it too -- just watch.
It's the drivers. It's always been the drivers -- ever since the invention of the IBM clone.
Vista itself, meaning the kernel and the shell, seem bulletproof to me (in terms of stability not security.) Also, I've never experienced any driver problems while gaming, probably because my only Vista machine has integrated Intel graphics, and Intel usually has their shit together.
However, for months I had to disable fingerprint-only authentication because the stupid driver, made by some no-name lamers too embarrassed to even brand the thing, didn't recover properly from sleep, the original reason S3 was disabled be default in XP.
Microsoft is between a rock and a hard place here. On the one hand, people want major changes from XP. On the other, they want everything to just work after upgrading. This would actually feasible if hardware makers would write solid drivers that follow the rules, but they don't.
So I once read a blog from a Windows developer on this exact subject. Unfortunately, I can't find you a link. Basically he said that, at one point, he harassed the makers of all the peripherals of *his* laptop until they made their drivers wake up in milliseconds. Then he explained that after you stop riding them they go back to making drivers that are slow to wake.
Now, I'm not saying Windows doesn't deserve some of the blame here, although I have seen some desktops that were pretty quick out of standby, but I imagine that Apple is able to exert more pressure on individual driver makers -- enough to ensure that their products come out of sleep quickly.
It probably is. Set up a custom power profile (Fn F3 will get you started; I call mine NoIndex ) and it's in the advanced, advanced options (around page 3 I think.)
The default power profiles are kind of braindead, so you should probably do this anyways, even if you don't intend to turn on indexing service.
As a sidenote I love how the default is to go to sleep when you close the lid, as if it's going to pop right back when you open it. What do they think their laptop is, a Mac??
How'd you get password protected sharing turned off? When I press the button that's supposed to turn it off it blinks and then it's back on again. Oh and I can't access the shares from XP.
As often as not, when gas is cheaper 15miles aways it's because the truck had to drive that far too, and it's almost always cheaper to let him do the driving.

And to think... what if they were drug abusing gang bangers and played Halo. They'd be like running a drive by with a rocket launcher.
I'd rather have the kid fragging me online than tagging my mailbox.

Actually most models are made in Canada lately. Some are also made in Ohio and Japan.
I was thinking along the same lines. Is there not way to turn off the wireless on a PSP/DS. Seems like it would save batteries.
Yeah but they haven't banned bringing your own.
Dude that happened to me and it suuucked. I still haven't brought myself to finish oblivion.

Yeah but the current plan is to cede it to Mexico.
How'd you get it to use more than 3GB?
Umm but you're not boycotting slashdot?

More like we gave up on Southeast Asia a long time ago. Also, intervention in Africa has never been popular over here.
I've had the same problem with my gut pressing the buttons under the touchpad. I just figured it was a sign I ought to lose some weight though!

I run it at 966 mhz all the time on my laptop (low power mode.)
