Personally I find it hard to sympathize with *any* commercial fishermen, they resent responsible harvesting practices, they are ambivalent towards corporate pollution which second to their own over fishing is mostly responsible to the decline of fisheries. When they can no longer make money they apparently are incapable of changing careers, insisting their occupation is some sort of romantic historical thing. If they really were interested in the long term vitality of their industry, they'd take a lot more interest in the big picture and stop being so myopic and short sighted.

This definitely was the long way, but I started by doing firmware testing and system integration testing and then more complex things like business analysis and system specification. Familiarity with electronics though is a must; this seems to make the difference between an embedded programmer that can or cannot make an impact on the project. Oh... and most managers who do hiring & firing are old school: thou shalt have a Ph.D. to be able to craft code (or at least a masters and 7 years experience).

Rail? I didn't say anything specifically limiting mass transit design to rail! Although I am not going to scour the web for studies supporting my arguments I really doubt that's true

"but rather the fact of 100% of taxpayers being forced to pay insane amounts of money for a project that will benefit roughly 5% of the state's population"

That is an incorrect assumption! The benefits of a well designed and implemented mass transit system are much more far reaching than solely to the individuals actually using the system.

    For example:
There is less traffic so the SUV drivers have an easier time squandering our non-renewable resources.
There are less emissions so the same SUV driving folks have cleaner air

These are only a few advantages that everyone could enjoy if only a few more Americans ease up on there death grip on their SUV' s and preconceptions on mass transit.

The E-villa's failure is more indicative of the failure of the business models of network / internet appliance retailers, more so than the technology behind them: iOpener, epod, E-villa, Gateway Connected Touch Pad, whatever. I suppose that the techno-freaks (like ourselves) that would buy these things already have a decent connection.

This is plain wrong. The socialist system does not work any less well than the capitalist system that the Americans employ. Some of the eastern European countries have VASTLY superior education systems when compared to American schools and they have operated the same way for decades. (and now that the content is not heavily censored or revisionist the result are that much more impressive). The real point here is that the failures of the different governmental systems manifest themselves in different ways, not that capitalism is the only workable system.

Also I don't think an all private school system would work well either. If Canadians are similar to Americans in this regard: American priorities are material- Big houses, Nice cars, Dozens of consumer electronic gadgets. This doesn't leave any money for private education for their children.
