  10. How would this work on More on Orbital Space Debris · · Score: 1

The only way this would work would be if they could identify every satellite in orbit around the planet, which would be hard even if every satellite was American. Once you start thinking about the Russian, Chinese, European ones etc. it becomes more complicated, especially if you consider that probably some goverments won't want to tell the US what satelittes they have, and what they do. I bet that not all of the old Russian 'junk' up there is as useless as its supposed to be.

Sorry, but I can't really see this happening. Imagine if such a virus was created, if it were to spread (and even if it was designed to be non-contagious, how could they be sure it would not mutate), where would the drugs companies get their profits from?

If all a person has to do is get the virus from the person down the street, without having to pay the company anything, they would all go broke.

However, if they make their 'miracle cure virus' have unpleasant side-effects if some other drug was not regularly taken, they would hit the jackpot because all of the people suffering from what the virus cured would have to hand over money regularly and so would other people who happened to get the virus.

Anyway, I thought that the Vatican had been an independent state since Mussolini 'bought' their support in the 1920's, so the Italian authorities don't really need to pay heed to what they say or act on their complaints, or am I wrong?

Actually, according to Trillian, Microsoft communicates details of changes made to their protocols. MS probably figures that its better to allow people to use something like Trillian because then at least they are signed up with MSN. Once this strategy has paid off and everyone has an AOL account, an ICQ account, a Yahoo! account and an MSN one, MS already has a huge user base and can kill off the other companies.

There already are other similar services, my favourite being nochex.com - its UK based but I imagine that Americans can still use it.

The big benefit for me is that they accept Switch and Solo cards which are very common in the UK but have very poor support outside (for instance, I don't think Paypal support them - its Visa or Mastercard only there). Also you can get a Solo card from the age of 16 whereas I'm pretty sure that you have to be 18 to get something which can be used on paypal.

    Another reason, taken from www.fatchucks.com:

"I believe this is being caused by the record industry. When they manufacture, say 500,000 records, I believe they are creating batches of corrupted CDs within these press runs (10,000? 50,000? 100,000? who knows?). Why? Because they may have known somebody would create a site like this to warn the public. With their method, they have people saying "Yes, this CD is corrupt," and others just as surely saying "No, this CD is normal."

The result? Public confusion and your hope that the CD YOU'RE buying is OK and not corrupt. Well, stop playing Russian Roulette and let the labels or big music store chains know how you feel while they fuck around with your music."
