Agreed, space flight cannot be safe yet with conventional standards.
But the wooden boaters stopped after a while and asked if this is the way to go. They fixed the problems quick enough and we have now ocean liners that are safe. Don't you think this shuttle thing is being extended for too long? Also the technology involved in too comprehensive and old to be upgraded straight away.
New thoughts and new design seems to be the only way out.
I have to agree because I installed XP SP2 yesterday on my laptop and the experience was....well, not worth remembering. Kind of fits the description in the post.
Its expensive for sure, but I use my Gmini to download my photos into it (from the CR card) when I am on the move (who wants to lug a laptop along?)
I use the older Gmini 120, which I picked up on a sale. Quite useful as a external hard disk, mp3 player and a device to download photos from my digital camera independent of a PC/Laptop.
Even if you are not appalled, nobody can condone what China is doing. Remember what is annoying to you is damn free speech for others (I don't count spam in this)
All this happened while USA's ally Pakistan WAS and IS a major proliferator. I can't imagine what screwed up state that country is going to get in a few years!
I have worked for a family owned IT company where many friends of the founder also worked for. He killed the relationship with family member and many of his friends.
Like everybody said it works while it all goes well. Especially when it all ends up in a long lawsuit!!
Its Open mobile alliance and mobile DRM
on
Buzzword du Jour: DRM
·
· Score: 2, Insightful
For all who cry that this is silly, it has been existing long enough (see satellite TV and radio). All the mobile operator and content community wants is a restricted environment to beam content (surprised?).
See http://www.openmobilealliance.org for details and specifications. 3GSM is primarily concerned with mobile DRM (obviously).
That is of course if I still want Windows. Why would I buy some crippled stripped down version while consumers who pay somewhat similar get a better working version elsewhere?
I am worried how EU will enforce that the stripped down version work the same way as the other one.
I attended a lecture by a bay area ameteur rocketry group. In their presentation they said HLS act might kill the hobby. Maybe Canada can continue. I am not against such laws per se, since we are dealing with extremely powerful machines that can wreak havoc if used with wrong intentions, but I wonder the future of amateur rocketry in present circumstances.
The author of the article claims he has his XP box running without reboot for days together:-) People who come up with windows-not-stable blanket complaint don't even seem to RTFA in question.
The article says He will have an extra parachute strapped to his back and a large knife inside the capsule - just in case he has to get out in a hurry.
This sure sounds like Jackass II or Fear Factor on steroids to me:))
Thats all I see in response to a pragmatic view expressed in the article. (As usual many responses looks like are posted without RTFA, but thats not new).
I didn't see anything anti-OSS in the article or total ignorance. It is written from a user's perspective.
Most responses are unanimous in saying that oepn source movement cannot be viewed as a company. So? Yesterday someone posted viewers doesn't care what tech is behind the movie theaters, in response to the release of WM 9.0 for movie theatres. Doesn't the same apply to OSS? User's don't care what ideology or methodology is behind the software. They care about whether it works and what it can do for them.
As long as this is not realised, OSS will be an expensive hobby (atleast in terms of time spent).
But MS also pays Indian NG organizations to monitor and report piracy. There is severe lobbying by MS to the govt. of India to legally act against privacy!
I visited them recently, and it is wonderful to see all these PDPs restored. I havent seen a PDP-1 before! I suggest computer history museum in silicon valley for you all. Check out their website.
Giving employees laptops is very normal now considering it helps them to work from home / while in travel.
Can't they move huge amounts of data with these things?
What else can you ban? Enforcing policy != banning stuff.

I don't know or haven't seen evidence that US consumption is coming down.
But do you know that China produces as much of oil as it imports?
It is India who imports 70% of its comsumption which is scary...

It is probably too late now, anyway:
All this happened while USA's ally Pakistan WAS and IS a major proliferator. I can't imagine what screwed up state that country is going to get in a few years!
One statistic to add: India overtakes US in milk production to become largest producer of milk in the world ~= 90 million metric tonnes.

``There is no explanation whatsoever where the money needed to implement the declared program would come from,'' Koptev said.
With their past experience and track record of Soyuz, this is definitely possible...but I really have my doubts about funding
I already have OZ on my SL5500. This one claims to be based on OZ and OPIE. Now why do I need this instead of already available OZ?

Who is ordinary folk? You mean the person who bought set top box is extraordinary?
I repeat : It is not a crime to earn money with software, YET.
Does it mean that geeks are the group of people running around with a lotta cash in hands to do this sort of thing?
Also it makes me wonder what kind of an internet infrastructure Iraq had in the first place! The article is sketchy on that!

I read on slate warblog that Iraq is expected to take them hostage any time soon. I am sure this is going to be a pain in the ass for US.
I saw disney land staff (in LA) trying the move around the theme park on a busy 3 day weekend. It wasn't helping them move there either!

I just waited close to 1.5 mins for the page to load after clicking "Reply to this". What an irony! /. just got /.ed.
The website seems to have removed the file...any mirrors?
Thanks
