I don't know about that. Perhaps if they improve it. I've had nothing but trouble with Quicktime running on Win32 platforms, so if they're going to port it to Linux they'd better do a damn good job. That and take out that lame nag screen.
Actually, I noticed in a couple games (the Messiah compatibility test being the most recent) that I can read text in D3D mode but not in OGL. Anyone else run into this problem? I get better speed in OGL, but it doesn't matter because I can't read anything.
Works for me... no more having to fsck around with directions involving "HIGH", "MEDIUM", or "LOW". These thresholds are NOT clearly defined... My microwave takes anything from 1-100 for the power. Every time I try to approximate something like that it comes out either destroyed from too much cooking or still frozen. I can't wait.
If I understand correctly, there WAS no previous Chief Software Architect. I think I heard on the news report that the position had been newly created for him (probably BY him, for that matter).
Awesome idea! Not that I'm in favor of crushing Microsoft utterly (I develop Windows software part-time), but it would be a great deal of fun to watch.
Of course, not only would it be a real asshole-move for Bill, but it would roughly equate to killing your own child.
Any bets on whether or not he would have the skill and clout to do it, if he chose to?
I just saw this scene on this morning's morning news.... I'm not surprised that Ballmer make this type of remark (he has all along). However, what really got me was that Gates (standing next to him at the time) was evidently trying to keep the smirk on his face from spreading... makes you wonder if he has more cards up his sleeve than we think.
It's kinda like being in high school and talking to girls about your SAT scores... you can pretty much kill a conversation if you both discover that you scored 400 points above the person you're talking to.
Note to any/.ers reading this and still in high school: _NEVER_ do this. I had a friend in high school who used to kill my conversations FOR me by mentioning my SAT score.:P Damn him...
It doesn't help to have them remember you as "that smart kid." Avoid all numerical/statistical criteria like the plague when getting to know someone. Actually, this last bit probably applies to just about everyone, high school or no. In my experience, most people aren't overly impressed by numbers. The ones that are are usually looking for a dollar sign in front of them.
Amen to that. Although I'm currently in a stable, fairly long-term relationship, that's happened entirely too many times to me. Moderate this one up, folks, he's right.
Another interesting thought: Does this mean we should be less "nice" regarding the opposite sex? Whatever works, I guess... Not by any means a suggestion, just a thought.
Whoa. Before you start trashing M$, find me a WYSIWYG tool that DOESN'T churn out heaps of trashy, unmodifiable-by-humans code. If you're going to mention FPE (which DOES suck, yes) at least have the decency to mention Netscape's (what is it... Composer?) software which is equally bad. Furthermore, while IE is not fully W3C standards compliant, it is exponentially more so than ANY of the.01-version-differentiated versions of Netscape out there.
Errm.... ok... but am I that bad at reading or isn't he Commander Taco?
