A little hyperbole perhaps, but at that rate of descent it probably felt like falling to the passengers, and considering how much noise the engines make, having them shut off all of a sudden is close enough to silent.
As for the RAT... I'm not familiar with that TLA, what is it? Not the squeaky kind with the tail and beady little eyes I assume.
Have you tried making a data call on one of those plans? It could be that they are compressing the voice call in a way that would not play nice with a data call.

And how is it going to know the answer in advance?
Just a guess, but maybe the mail server would know the answer in advance because it used the answer to calculate the question? Couldn't the calculation to generate the question from the answer be orders of magnitude easier than the reverse?
Not entierly complete either. Sometimes closing accounts can hurt your credit score too, for example if there were recent late payments on the account, or if closing the account makes your (credit in use)/(avalible credit) ratio too large. Bottom line is that the credit score calculation is very complex. If you are concerned with it enough to open or close accounts to change your score, you should probably consult a financial planner. according to the installation guide:
40-bit DES (US Data Encryption Standard) is adequate for general users
In much the same way that leaving the data un-encrypted is adequate for general users, I suppose.
