I'm mostly talking about the Tokyo system, yes. JR doesn't run the subways, Eidan and Oedo and some private companies do. Now go learn something and quit watching cartoons.
Nobody walks in Vegas...not even from hotel to hotel. I never had a problem with taxis, other than the expense. The only place you can walk in Vegas is in Downtown. The tourists hate downtown because it's not new and exciting and expensive, it's rundown oldstyle Vegas with low table minimums and cheap rooms.
Like most public transportation projects I've been on, this one is pretty useless. You can't go from the airport to the hotel...what's the point? The system is similarly useless to anyone who actually *lives* in Vegas. Los Angeles authorities thought it would be a good idea to build some trains...they don't go anywhere that you'd ever want to go. It doesn't connect to the airport because the taxicab union lobbied against it. The Houston rail "system" is similarly pointless. Atlanta's isn't bad, mostly because union opposition was overcome and it actually connects to the airport.
WTF dude. I've lived in countries with excellent public transportation, and it still sucks. It's expensive; the train goes when it wants to, not when you want to; the other passengers on the train sometimes smell really bad; and trains stop running after a certain hour; and it takes a long time to get to where you're going. It used to take me an hour to go 5 miles by train. I could make the same trip in 10 minutes by car.
Other countries also lack the outstanding Interstate Highway System.

Tokyo has only a few skyscrapers, all of them in West Shinjuku. It's a vast city, but skyscrapers simply don't exist. If you were that impressed by Tokyo, you're probably a hick from the sticks.

When the internet goes out, the phone system will still work, too. Are you some kind of gun-nut survivalist? When the internet goes out (after the Rooshins attack, you mean), we'll be able to communicate by a two-way voice medium, subject to sunspots and the political meanderings of 55-year-old gun nuts?
Not a troll, just a truth-teller. The two are commonly confused, especially by zealots.

Ham radio is like an AOL chatroom, only you get to talk to crochety 55-year-old men and their wives instead of police officers posing as 13-year-old girls.
In all seriousness, ham radio is a hobby whose time has passed. It's a chat protocol. Big deal. There are better protocols these days. Sure, you can make it do wacky things like send data, but come on, sitting next to a book and jotting down station numbers, trying to see how many you can get, is not a hobby. It's tedium for retirees...hey, it's better than slot machines, I suppose.
Me troll? Assault on Iraqi people? Please tell me you don't really believe that.
Canada's military is in a shambles. Just ask anyone...the military itself, the government, the people. They lack sufficient force even to perform banal missions such as protecting their fisheries. A sad state of affairs, one I hope is only temporary.
Last days of Berlin? Soviets were doing the work there...and unguided bombs? When, exactly, were guided bombs used during WWII?
As an aside, "carpet bombing" was never a military term. It's a loaded word used by journalists.
A WWII submarine would never get within 100 miles of an aircraft carrier before being sunk by a helicopter or another sub. You could do some damage against cargo ships, assuming they'd even notice that they'd been torpedoed. A modern container ship is nothing like a Liberty ship of '44.
Either this was a halfassed troll or a profoundly ignorant individual. If it's a troll, more effort should have been put in to it, really.
Nah, the internet long ago ceased to be the redundant network that it was set up to be. There are many, many places that the internet can be broken, and any one of them would seriously (critically) degrade functionality. The days of the internet being able to work despite most of it being wiped out are long gone.
Likewise, a plumber can do a "beautiful" job, but it will never be art. Art has to be useless in order to be art. Otherwise, artist would not be such a high-status occupation.
Yaknow, the reason that I use linux is that it's hard. It makes me feel good to know that I can modify my system the way I want to, just by reading a few articles, tweaking a few files, and recompiling. Do we really want to sacrifice the power of linux on the altar of "usability"? I'd like linux less if everyone used it...I wouldn't be so special. If everyone could tweak their kernel for maximum performance, I'd like linux a hell of a lot less. I spent a lot of time reading osnews and slashdot to learn what I did, and to have all that thrown away just to get a few more clueless newbies into the fold, who are going to contribute nothing but more idiot questions that I have to answer with smackdowns...is it worth it?

And the aggression versus China, which prompted the US sanctions, leaves Japan blameless? Nice.
