I am a Brazilian and in this case - just in this case - I think they are right. We as mankind have already destroyed more forests than we need.

Instead, we should earn money with the forests. Yes, this is possible. We use a concept called "agroforest". The idea is that, instead of growing a lot of the same plant in a plain field, you grow a lot of different native plants with the forest. This way all the nature framework (plague control, natural selection etc.) works for you, and you actually helps the forest recover. The model is also very economically attractive for poor rural families, that can free themselves of the big farmers.

It is a shame that US is always patenting our native plants.

I just discovered ratpoison some days ago, and I'm *very* happy with it. It's very productive.

It is very scriptable too. For example, if you use micq, try this in your ~/.micq/micqrc :
receivescript ratpoison -c "echo incoming icq message"

Here goes some screenshots (if the server is down try again later).
This one is showing no windows (but root-tail is running).
This one is a split screen (just to show off, most of the time I just run everything maximized).

If you like screen, and you hate moving/resizing windows, try ratpoison.

The movie is pretty short indeed. You really should read the manga, then you'll agree that Akira is a classic. The characters are much more deep.
The beautiful scenes of Tetsuo destroying the moon still amazes me.

I think blogs are like karaoke. Nobody wants to watch a bunch of drunken people singing, but it is very fun to sing. Same way, almost all blogs are useless crap, but they are fun for the one who writes.

I believe you should make the program plataform independent, and then let the guys working at each distro port it - they probably can do it better than you anyway.

Of course, you should learn how to package for your favorite distro.

NetBSD kernel really performs better on old hardware than Linux (at least, than a "out of the box" Linux), and Linux really performs better on newer hardware (because of the larger userbase). Why don't you try both things?

And I already said why I use it - it is clean, minimalist, and consistent, very good to learn about Unix. The code is elegant, well-designed and commented. Linux is great but confusing. In NetBSD if you want to know something you write "man something" and all the information you want is there.

But don't believe me, try it! Why don't you subscribe to that Compaq Testdrive program? It is free and you can experiment with a variety of OSes.

I'm a Debian guy but I love NetBSD too. Why? Very clean, very minimalist, good documentation, clean and commented code, consistency... IMHO, it's the best alternative to learning UNIX today. Older computers like it too. Debian Sid runs OK in my Duron, with thousands of packages and dozens of new ones every week, running OpenGL games, etc. NetBSD is very happy as a router and learning system inside my Pentium 100.

Sometimes someone asks me why I don't use OpenBSD instead. Because of that stupid fish! Long live Beastie! BSD have the best mascot of all and OpenBSD just throw it away? :/
