If you look at Unisys stock and earnings over the past two years, desparation would be an uplifting thought for them. Their mantra is "At least the Titanic had music"

Totally agreed but if you do not use the exchange, sharepoint etc. services what is the attraction to purchase. Increasing expenses, have a ribbon based program ?? Also the tech support is going to be interesting switching gears call by call to ribbons and menues. MS needs to remeber that just because you can radically change something it does not make it superior and there is an entire re-education process that may not be justified. "Because you can do it does not make it worth it"

I know that this will start the flames but MS can block who ever and whatere thay want. There are multiple search engines and if I could not find Oracle on MSN, I would not use it - not that I ever do. The concept of "fair representation in rankings for a search engine" is not a legal or defined term. The method of ranking would require consistent application for market acceptance. At this point a law does not seem in place to regulate

"I'm glad you're not a stock broker or analyst" You must be one. Stock analyst work for themselves. The provide their "guesses" and then want the companies earnings to confirm their predictions. For some companies having their business decisions affected by people who have never run a business is important. It is good to see a company that has chosed not to play the game. The honesty in the IPO could have restrict the sale - it didn't. Google should continue along the path they have chosed. The analyst have made their money by now.

NPV is extremely valid when comparing two projects. The assumptions you reference can cause differnt results if they are not applied consistently to both projects. When done in the same organization, with the same assumptions affecting the factual situations, they are a valuable tool. NPV is not an absolute number but a method of ordering different alternatives. Your post is correct if you compare NPV of two projects computed with different assumptions by different individuals.
