Say if all the hardware developers (or some of the biggest, atleast at first) made a collabarative effort in putting togheter a standard for drivers, that isn`t either windows og linux drivers. This standard could then be implemented in the oses, maybe not as the standard, but at least as an option. Then maybe, over time, linux,windows,bsd and all the other oses out there would improve theyr implementation of these drivers (the buzzword here is "long-term implementation"). so, maybe, in the next 2-3-->10 years, we would have a standard driver interface, which would benefit both the hardware manufactors (more customers), and the consumers (A standard driver that fits all oses). I understand that this won`t be easy, but what great benefits this could lead to, but the gains would absolutely outweigh the downs.
