  1. Uhm.... on Yoda, Gollum Take MTV Awards · · Score: 5, Insightful

This is obviously keeping up with the 'shiny things' network.

Giving Gollum some recognition is great and all, but when he wins it jointly with the little guy who jumped around like sonic the hedge hog wielding a light saber, it is lacking credibility. It is obviously the 'digital characters are cool' award.

What about stuff such as UWB? Wouldn't the massive SS aspect, which helps with making it very jamm-resistant, help make it EMP resistant?

I don't have a real firm grasp of EMP stuff. I can understand that a huge EM wave could screw with electronics, but that is easy to defend against. Is EMP in the same vein as jamming something, but instead sending enough energy to just destroy the object, or is EMP pretty frequency independant of the listening device and just attacks everything?

Other than the magnetic strip not wearing out, what's the advantage?

The advantage isn't in the method of payment. Like you said, you have to present either form of credit cards (swipe/wave) to pay for items.

The advantage comes in what else they can do. These cards are capable of dialog with other devices. Instead of just blindly spitting out billing information, they can store and call up a multitude of things. It allows some functionality as a personal identifier, especially for services/priveledges you have to subscribe to. Buy a monthly pass for the subway/bus, have it stored on your credit card. Gym, library, museum, etc. Now instead of carrying multiple cards, you just wave your Visa at a reader and you are set.

You think Joe Schmoe shelled out a few hundred bucks for Win2k/NT? I don't think so. CodeRed is attack of the MS warez pirates. Makes it hard to sue someone for software you stole in the first place (although it'd be funny watch). -Eyston

No, it's not an issue in the US. We believe in freedom of speech and realize banning something as silly as a symbol won't stop the hatred.

    Hah.

Obviously Mr. Red-White-and-Blue hasn't been paying attention to the motherland. The Confederate Flag is being banned all over the southern states. This war happened over 100 years ago and no survivors from it are still alive. WWII happened 50 years ago, and there are plenty of survivors still alive who witnessed the horrors.
