It just occurred to me that a good reason why Microsoft gets off so easy is that the judges and lawyers in the Justice Department don't want to face having to upgrade their Windows computers if Microsoft goes away. They are in a position of conflict of interest being a customer of the defendant.

True, but the OSDL companies represent huge markets that Microsoft has yet to break into successfully. Microsoft is sort of walled off from the world, in the business sense.

Well, it really isn't art, in the "fine art" sense, as it's really design. While design is often taught in the art department, art to design is a lot like math to engineering, IMO.

Instead of blowing wads of cash on a home theater system, why not give $100 to your local food bank this holiday season?

Because supporting the economy is the biggest act of charity there is. Allow some salesman to earn a living, get a TV. It's win-win.

Supporting the local food bank is nice and all (and it's certainly better than paying taxes), but it only feeds a man for a day rather than supporting a business that feeds people for a career.

I'm sorry, american car racing is the dumbest spectator "sport" ever.

NASCAR and drag racing, for example, are primarily drivetrain and pit crew competitions. The driver is the figurehead of the team and does, well, the driving.

I hate to say this, but it's like ballet. I don't personally "get" either NASCAR or ballet, but there are obviously a lot of people who do. Those people develop an appreciation beyond the trivial aspects of driving in circles or jumping up and down like a monkey on a stage. At the least, it gives them a distraction from their everyday arbitrary lives. So, I suggest you be happy for them for finding something they enjoy, and, then, you should go off and find something that you enjoy. I'm open-minded, so if you enjoy barnyard masterbation or flatulence spectral analysis, then more power to you!

This isn't a matter of my own beliefs and prejudices; it's a matter of other people's prejudices coming around and making mine obselete.

Actually, it just boils down to complacency and sheepishness. You'd be suprised how many people support Bush simply because their parents said to or their preacher said to.

Actually, the whole point to the Liberty Alliance was to avoid the centralization inherent to Microsoft's Passport. If Liberty Alliance succeeds, it's because it was developed by businesses who want to do business but don't necessarily trust eachother. Liberty Alliance has the potential to be a good compromise between the broken eggs that is Passport and the problem of multiple sign-ons.

I've generally never had a problem with multiple-sign-on, but I guess other people do. Alternatively, all this single-sign-on stuff could be a solution looking for a problem. I guess time will tell.
