Making our infrastructure more resilient is something we should also be doing, but it is not enough. If we are doing something that is hurting the biosphere it is pretty stupid not to try to stop doing it. Shit happens, but we don't have to help it happen.
No, that's not what the study shows. The study shows the average of all the guesses made approaches the correct answer. It does not say that there is any increase in the accuracy of subsequent guesses on their own.
Right, efficiency is good for business and the search for alternate fuels is good for advancing science as a whole. Getting away from oil would also be a big win politically. The only real argument against it is that it's expensive, but no shit. Nothings free, and without spending money jobs don't get created.
Excellent book. It's been awhile since I've read though, so I just reread the chapter (not quite the last chapter, but near the end). It's a great inside perspective on journalism, but I wonder how much of it applies to Fox News and other cable news networks. There is little real journalism on these networks and there have also been many claims made about upper management having editorial influence on the news coverage. Stuff like talking points being distributed to writers or journalists stores questioning the war being cut.
Yes. No one credible believes that we are entirely responsible for the climate change, on the other hand no one credible disputes that we are contributing to it. No matter what the cause, the increased global temperature is a bad thing for us and thus it is in our best interest to stop contributing to the change ASAP.
Well yes, there is some degree of randomness, but that is different from random. If they were random then a guess of 1 would be as likely as a guess of 1,000,000. Because the guesses are informed by an approximation of the size of the jar and its contents, answers that are way off are less likely than guess that are in the ballpark.
No, it's not rocket science. In fact the spoken language is fairly simple with no verb tenses or genders and the grammar has many similarities to English. Learning the thousands of characters is a bitch though. It can be done, but it requires dedication.
The fact is that liberals have control of the networks - I saw poll that showed essentially all journalists at CNN, ABC, CBS etc vote for the Democrats.
You might want to rethink that assertion. The journalists certainly do not control the networks.
The www started in 1990, but the porners only really got going in 2000+ Were you on the internet in the 90s? I can assure you the porn was well established by 95. By 1998 it was already a big enough problem that the COPA was passed.
I'm confused on the part where you think your saying something makes it true. If I had to choose I would say who ever came up with the idea for "free speech zones" has done the most to damage free speech in recent times. How exactly has Feingold diminished your rights to speech? How many people have been arrested due to it?
Political advertisements have done nothing but cheapen the political discourse in this nation. I'm glad that McCain-Feingold attempted to regulate them but more needs to be done. It represents only a small step towards getting our democracy back.

The north pole ice is floating, therefore it doesn't impact the sea level when it melts.

They are guesses, but not random guesses.
Wow, that doesn't follow in any way from what I said. Moving right along...

What's the difference between Fox news and an idiot comic?
Sadly yes. The last 8 years make a bit more sense now, don't they?
So this story is about DARPA going to five blades? That's not news, it's been done before.
The way he says it makes it sound like he's proud that he's so fucking stupid.
I'm sure he's quite proud. Just you're every-day idiot doesn't get a comfy job as a news reader on Fox. Nope, his mom was right. He's very special.
My favorite part was "Check that out! You see that go off the runway? It was gone."
Yes, what an amazing new technology that allows planes to get off the runway. Computer animated planes, no less!

The code can be a bitch too.
and no, you are not smart for regurgitating what the fast food lobby has fed you.

That book is 29 years old though, so it doesn't qualify. He has other books in the past 25 years however.
Thanks, I was worried I was missing something. Hardly anti-free speech, Feingold is still one of the few good ones.
Since when is Feingold anti-free speech?
I see. It's surprising someone gave such an empty comment +1 Insightful. I wish instead they had commented on what insight they perceived.
