  1. Re:So on All US Border Crossings Now Require A 'Terrorist Risk Profile' · · Score: 1

You make a good point, but it's still bullshit. Terrorists kill less people in the US than cars, smoking, the war on drugs, just about anything actually. And yet we are still spending more and more money and making everyday life a pain in the ass for more and more people all just to score a few cheap political points. How the fuck did we get stuck with this pathetic government anyway?

Finally, of course, subtitles and dubbing will typically have different translations, and all bets are off as to which is better. The subtitles will have a better translation typically. The reason is that the translation on dubbed movies will be changed around a bit in order to make the translated words fit the mouth movements on the screen.

That fact is that Bin Laden wanted us to be mired in an unsustainable gorilla war and we gave him exactly that. Mission accomplished.

#1 - There's a reason for a propaganda machine in any war. If the locals are blaming us for deaths, then the propaganda machine is not doing its job. Rove, is that you? If the Iraqis are blaming us for the people we are killing due to the war, we could try and do a better job of convincing them that it isn't our fault.

Or maybe we could stop killing them.

Compare that for example to buying a car radio and not being able to receive signals of 1/2 of the stations, or losing radio signal in your radio where the car on your right receives the same program because it's coming from another provider... great thing, incompatible 'standards' eh? Sounds a bit like satellite radio to me.

In any language used by creatures living on planets, there will be a word for 'sun.' But 'Sol' will still be unique. Don't be so sure of that. Won't you feel foolish when we find out that "sol" is the word Andromedians use to refer to the central star in any solar system.

When we have colonies on Mars, what will the people living there be referring to when they say, "The moon has just risen?" I think it's safe to assume they are referring to the moon in the sky outside their bedroom window. I can't imagine how that could ever be confusing. We are already aware of other moons in the solar system and yet the phrase "the moon" doesn't result in any confusion.

That's not going to surprise anyone, I think the evilness of HR is pretty much common knowledge among this crowd.
