some of the newer cards you plug the cable directly into the card. no dongle, no slide, just an open jack for the cable. of course if the pcmcia slots are positioned wrong, the single card can end up taking both slots, but the last time i used both slots is when i had one card each for modem and lan. they're a little more expensive, but the last two i've bought were recognized right away by linux (rh7.2).
The fact is, security solutions aren't one-size-fits-all, and they're not something you can build a plug-n-play device around.
my netscreen firewall comes out of the box perfectly secure for most peoples needs. it allows everything out and nothing back in that wasn't requested. it's perfect for joe blow, even has a nice neat web interface for mr. blow. security out of the box CAN be designed, it just may take awhile.
didn't someone file a lawsuit against the playboy channel once because he claimed that the logo had burned into his TV because he watched it all the time? i seem to remember he was actually just recording the shows before they started using the logo, and when they started it kinda "ruined" his copies.
i think in the older version of the menu software (before they put all those @#$@^# ads that obscure a third of the screen) allowed you to turn of the "flip menu" completely. the instruction guide i got earlier this year showed the option and gave detailed instructions on how to change it. of course the cable company hasn't issued new info packets in over a year, so it's hopelessly out of date.
lately there's a story going around that if you look into a computer monitor running XP and say "MS-DOS" five times, Bill Gates will come out of the screen after you..
most wal-marts and such require only a state drivers license or state identification card. i know at least some states have state ID cards that look like driver's licenses but aren't. i had one when i was a teen until i got old enough to get my license.
If someone hands you an email attachment, email back, and ask what it is
bob: oh, look, i got an emailed attachment from bill. hmm, i wonder what it is, but i'm not gonna open it. instead, i'll send it back to him and ask him what it is...
bob's email to bill: what is this attachment?
bill: oh hey, look, bob sent me an attachment..asking what it is, i wonder..(double-click)..ahhh!!! virus!!! ahhh!!! that b@stard bob, he sent me a virus!!
just remember that there's a difference between someone who goes to one of those boot camps (usually paid for by The Company) to pass the test and someone who takes a test when he/she feels they have enough knowledge about the subject to pass it.
I've seen the guy who went and studied to pass the test, and i've seen the guy who went and studied to learn the subject material. I'd personally only hire the second guy.
i read an article somewhere (can't find it now, but i think it was on the apbnews.com website) that said that there was a thin line between serial killers and doctors. something to do with their neatness and the way they had a set procedure for everything. as an example it showed how one killer (i think it was dahmer) had gone from disecting animals he'd found killed by cars (which was kinda unusual, most killers start by killing animals themselves) to being able to disect humans, and he'd done it by learning from animals first. it was a really interesting article, i wish i could find it.

i think there was also an issue with x10 stuff and either 900MHz phones, wireless ethernet, or both.

I think we ought to put Fritz through a Turing test.
me: so, Fritz, how are you doing today?
DF: rook 3 to queen's knight 2.
:>
not granular, but we'll eventually go to metric time ;P

i don't know about you, but my mom would be quite angry with me if i got her thrown in jail. at least she was the last time i did it..
