  1. Copied Again: OOo on Microsoft Ends Era Of Closed File Formats · · Score: 1

Micro$oft is amazingly full of it again. Here we see the threat caused by OpenOffice, who submited these standards to OASIS btw, is so great that MS had to pull an Al Gore and "invent" them. (Appologies to the Dems and Apple Fans). Truth is MS is now using OOo's standards. Amazing how people spin information to sway the lesser informed.

    excuse me while I puke....

  2. Dish is great on Echostar/Dish Network Pulls Viacom Channels · · Score: 1

I know some of the folks at Dish. I'm also a subscriber. Might be biased a bit but having seen both I can say that Dish is great. Good quality, good prices, and by pulling viacomm they made an even better impression. I don't want to support people like viacomm who increase their rates 4 times over inflation. To me, Dish stood up for my interests.

I also watch international programming on Dish that's not available on DirectTV.

Everyone is entitled to free speech and in this case, free to choose what Satellite TV provider you want. Us Satellite folks should stick together though. You could be on Cable which tries to brainwash you.

  3. Re:Vonage... on Experiences with Alternate Local Phone Companies? · · Score: 1
I've had my home phone via vonage now for several months and they are very good. We've had nothing but good luck with them. I've read on other sites that some people haven't had as nice of a time as we have.

For the money it's a great service but you really need a minimum of 640/256 and no big filesharing running. I have a 1m T1 with vonage and about 7 computers, 3 of which running the Entropy project, which is similar to Freenet. One computer does a lot of Lotus Notes replicating on some huge files. I've had nothing but amazing successes. In fact, I was online one night downloading some 600m iso's and playing some online streaming movie previews while talking long distance (using vonage) to a friend. Everything was real time.

As with anything your mileage may vary but this a nice service for those of us who are hooked on the internet.

  4. Cost on Do We Spend More On Linux Or Windows? · · Score: 1

This is an easy one for me: $1.89 / cd of a 2 cd set from lsl.com + shipping every time RH releases new software. Maybe $24 a year?
