    The rovers were supposed to last only three months because of dust building up on the solar panels---how come they never considered wipers?

          Considering the fact that the rovers have far outlived their design life - wipers don't seem to be essential, do they?

          Wipers (and the motor to run them) add mass, the motor requires energy, circuitry, etc. Just another component that can fail. And a non essential one at that, apparently.

    What this is really, is a legal way of labeling everyone on the internet as a potential criminal.

          Well, from a law enforcement point of view, everyone IS a potential criminal.

          However I wish them luck drowning in their ocean of data. And hopefully the false positives will be able to prove their innocence (isn't it supposed to be the other way around?) and avoid going to jail.

    Blue eyes (and blond hair, as it were) are getting rarer and rarer as time goes on, because they're getting their genetic asses kicked by other colors. Evolutionary significance? Genetic weakness. :P

    That's why I made sure my wife had blue eyes and blonde hair, just like me :P

    The Economic control goes to whomever controls the country. So what you see is a battle between radical extreme groups focusing on the other three positions. Blood feuds between families. Religious suicide bombers. Political assassinations.

    umm, this is true of ANY country. Still I don't see Canadians murdering each other over the uranium, nickel and wheat. And your point is?

    That means that an 80kg adult male (180 lbs) would have to ingest 12-16 *grams* before he has even a 50% chance of dying.

    Unless of course your 80kg male has peptic ulcer disease or a cardiac dysrythmia, in which case he will need FAR less than that in order to be on his merry way.

          Except for the odd person with a brain who points out the difference between looking at a naked 17 1/2 year old having consensual sex and a naked 5 year old having forced sex. But absolutism is the new rage nowadays. And when I was younger it used to be "PC". Had I known what it would have evolved into, I would have fought even harder.

    because after all, all the pirate bay hosts are torrents. The people who actually upload the stuff are from everywhere, including your country.

    Oh, and there are PLENTY of other torrent sites - some even bigger than tpb.

    So just force everyone to disconnect their internet, and the piracy stops.

    It's PEOPLE who pirate - through P2P, through torrents, through email, through USENET, etc etc etc. Until you get that through your thick head you will NEVER understand that the solution is along the lines of "how do we make people not want to pirate" instead of "how do we stop communication". Cheaper digital information is an excellent start. Why charge $25 for something that really only costs pennies to distribute? Because after all, how come the pirates can afford to distribute it and the publishers can't?

    But now the government will obviously claim that the "copy" is in fact a work of fiction, completely made up. And NO they can't have access to any records to see if this is true or not. Such records don't exist. And if they did, they are state secrets.

    At least in theory?

          Yes. In theory. In a state governed by the people, for the people. That stopped a long time ago, however. The very minute that the government started listening to the lobbyist instead of the constituent, and worshiping the campaign contributor instead of public opinion.

          In a way it makes sense. A population that is employed, and that can generally afford a reasonable standard of living, is unlikely to revolt. Who employs the people? The corporations. So keep the corporations happy, keep unemployment down, and you'll avoid serious trouble. Or so they think. The US economic future is NOT looking very bright right now. I wonder what will happen next.
