I love Frys. But I've only been to it three times, twice in Dallas and once in Sillicon Valley. They need some more of them, it's one of my favorite stores. Also, aren't they the store that doesn't have a website, or is that someone else?
My main gripe about WMP is well, it's Windows only which sucks when I'm in Linux, and I think it looks butt ugly. Other than that, I don't really differentiate between the two. Also, WMP does TOO much. It tries to take over every type of media file, while I want Sonique to play my MP3's, not WMP. Real Player just does.ra and.ram files, nothing else.
The only problem is the consumer doesn't know what they are getting, even if it's open source. How many people even know how to program? Exactly, so they trust the OSS developer to deliver the product promised. So I say Open Source companies should be held liable, for the 99% of the population who can't program.
I've seen this type of problem addressed before in Slashdot, or at least a thread or two about it. I forgot what the conclusion was, but this doesn't suprise me at all. As for playing Quake I, I play it at school since the computers really suck there, and we have lots of free time.
so I called UPS and asked for a refund on my shipment (to which they claim I'm entitlted).
Actually, if you read the really small print you'll notice that it says the offer is void from December 12 to December 25. Of course, it is really hidden away so it's slightly devious I guess.
I've heard of a lot of problems with buy.com and Gran Turismo 2. I didn't buy it from them (found on at Target thank god) but I've read a few accounts of people not receiving their GT2 discs when buy.com said they would. Of course, from all the horror stories I've read about buy.com, I doubt I'll ever shop there anyway.
All 3 of my hotmail accounts are working/worked just fine. And I'm recieving mail, since I just got a confirmation mail for the MS Intillimouse Explorer I just bought with some Christmas money:)
Argh, I always forget to download this thing, and when Slashdot runs a story to remind me, it always gets slashdotted. That or else they have the slowest server on the planet. Anyone got some mirrors?
I care about the average user because that is what will get Linux to go mainstream. And if it goes mainstream, that means there are more apps to do things in (Sonique or Pirch on Linux, mmmm (and before you get your panties in a knot, I know there are Linux equivalents, but I like those two programs more)) and it means increased hardware support. I've been lucky, the only thing that Linux doesn't support is my scanner, but if it was mainstream, then maybe my scanner would work too.
Yea, except "make" doesn't always work for me. Half the time I try to compile something it says I'm missing a file or library or something. So then I either have to track down the file and figure out where the hell to put it, or else just not install the program. BTW, this is on a standard Mandrake distro. I've NEVER gotten any error message saying I was missing some file in Windows when installing software.
As for what you were replying too though, he was talking about a GUI application that Windows users would feel comfortable. I myself would absolutly love an Installsheild like install program for Linux. Shoot, why stop at installation, make it for adminstration too. For instance, to update your libraries, Gnome, or whatever else, just click a button and it does it all for you. That would be a godsend.
Do you use Red Hat or Mandrake? If so, that could be the cause of your "Error 1" problems (something about Red Hat causes it to mess up) You'll have to download a beta of G2 from here to play ra files.
Then how come at least half the hits that I get to my site from/. are Windows boxes? Plus, out of everyone I know personally that reads Slashdot, I'm the only one who uses Linux. Finally, I remember reading somewhere on this site, or in an interview, or something, that a majority of the hits at Slashdot are not from *nix boxes, but Windows machines. Face it, Linux users are the minority, maybe not on/., but everywhere else. Why should the Slashdot creators censor what could be a funny movie or something just because "half" of it's visitors can't view it? What about all the Windows users who can't compile the latest source code that was annonced on Slashdot? Should there be no stories that discriminate in the slightest way? You choose to use Linux (most of you anyway) and this is one of the consequences of that desicion. Get over it.
Yea, fake make-believe animals that faint (not die), and that from a cartoon basis, actually like to fight. I haven't heard of anything remotly like a kid actually playing "Pokemon" on an actual animal due to Pokemon.
Speaking of missing libraries, how come does that happen? I mean, I've NEVER had an error saying I was missing something (other than hard drive space:) in Windows, yet I get them quite often in Linux, especially when I compile stuff from source. It's quite fustrating. So how come it happens a lot in Linux, yet never happens in Windows?
That book is "freaking" amazing! I've just read a little over half the first chapter, and I've already learned a crap load of stuff I've been curious about, but never really looked up or understood. I'm definitly glad I checked it out : )
From another picture from the site, it looks like it will just occupy a small portion of the windshield, so that signs and other things will be able to be seen like normal.
I released that link in a videogame IRC room just now, and they absolutly loved it. I especially like this one. I just wonder how long it'll be until it gets Slashdoted.
Wrong. 2^10==8.
Must be that "new math" they teach in school nowdays.....

For the unenlightened, what is Go?

Um, there are plenty of games on the N64 that have great gameplay, it's not all graphics and flash. Perhaps your cousin is playing the wrong games????

Next they'll be saying the pokemons are the devils creation sent here to ring in Armageddon.
Already been done. Click Here and click on the very bottom press release.

Go to www.flash.com and it should automatically take you to the flash plugin page for your browser automatically if IIRC.

Of course, most people don't even know what encryption is, or that they should be using 128 bit.
Someone care to explain what herd is for all of us who don't know much about alternative OS's? It would this story make a lot more sense.
You can get them h ere
