I meant to say that Final Fantasy VI was the last good videogame.

CE-based? That scares me. The last thing I need is to get the climactic battle in Final Fantasy X, be a round away from victory, and have the game freeze with a message box reading:
Final Fantasy X has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

I wouldn't pay $10 for XBox or any of the "games" Microsoft tries to foist on the public. Quite frankly, Final Fantasy XI was the last good videogame ever made; every game since then has depended primarily on flashy graphics and flashier propaganda, IMHO.
No. Having Richard Stallman speak for us is like having Charlton Heston speak for the National Rifle Association. We need to be taken seriously, because right now mainstream society considers us to be a bunch of misguided idealists at best, and a crew of destructive lunatics at worst.
We need leaders capable of stating our case rationally, without appeals to ideals and morals that do not exist in society at large. While Mr. Stallman has done a great deal for Open Source through FSF and the GNU project, his positions are too strident for mainstream society to accept.
I'd suggest that (if they are willing) Ken Thompson, Linus Torvalds, Matthias Ettrich, and Miguel di Icaza (sp?) represent us. As the driving forces behind Unix, Linux, KDE, and GNOME; the business world already knows of these people and what they are capable of.
For example: Final Fantasy X only runs on PlayStation2, Shenmue and Phantasy Star Online only run on Dreamcast, and without an emulator you can only play Zelda games on Nintendo hardware.
Programmers have been tossing portability to the wind for years. If you don't believe me, try running Quake3 on a Sparc or Alpha CPU. Speaking of Quake, the first Quake, AFAIK, was optimized for 3Dfx Voodoo display adaptors. The current ATI vs. nVidia flap is business as usual.
Well, Rei, I need science. You need science. The people down the road need science. Granted, there are scientists cooking their data to suit their agendas, but at least other scientists can dispute corrupt data with their own. Would you prefer to live in the good old days when all the knowledge of the world came from Aristotle and anybody who challenged orthodoxy was a servant of Satan fit only to burn?
So scientists with an agenda are trying to tell people that there's hole in the ozone layer. I hear people like Rush claiming that human embryos have souls. Imagine that: an embryo lacks a sentient mind and a set of instincts, but we're supposed to believe that it has a soul. The worst of it is that this particular idea isn't being propounded by a scientist with data that might prove his theory correct, it's being pushed on us be people who believe in a supernatural Creator who exists outside this universe. ******

Fuck! Even in the future nothing works!!
I didn't buy a Dreamcast either, for the same reason. I don't buy defective products, and I think that Microsoft's products are defective.

What? I have to waste time watching Star Trek in order to be a geek? Why can't I just spend all my time hacking and reading?
What in Arioch's name is "Kobayashi Maru"?
