  1. Who wants to help start our own party in the U.S.? on Swedish Filesharers Start 'The Piracy Party' · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think we need to start our own party in the U.S.
We have enough people out there if they found out they would support us. Especially all those people who have been persecuted by the RIAA. The copyright for stuff has been constantly extened since the founding of this country. We need to reverse back to what it was so more stuff is back in Public Domain. We regain our Fair Use rights. It is harder to make backups of our video games now these days with Securom, Safedisc, and the other copy protections. What happened to a product you buy and being able to use it the way you want. Instead of buying a license to use it. If I buy a CD I want to rip it to put on my MP3 player. I want to back up my games so my original is kept safe from wear while I use the copy to play off usually in Virtual CD/DVD Drive for better performance. Itunes is doing good even though $.99 is somewhat high. RIAA is trying to jack the prices of the itunes songs up due to some sing being more popular. Things need to be a flat price. Just look at the different prices of TV to DVD shows. $80 a season for some and others $60,$40 or somewhere in between. The MPAA, RIAA, Congress, and software publishers have gone too far.
Even ISP getting sued for what their customers do. You explain security holes and get sued when they was trying to help. We might not call it piracy party, but we need a new political party besides the 2 oil loving big business monopoly parties we have. Why else would there be only 1 cable provider and 1 local telephone company in small cities. I lived in area there 4 cables companies all in one area. One in each city and not one would go in the other area and they controlled the prices. Finally the FCC came in and gave the city control to regulater the price increases. They constantly increase price, but don't add more service.

Who is with me in regaining our consumer rights?
Let's start the Consumer's Rights Party!

  2. We went through this before and it failed. on Microsoft Invents A 'Play-Once Only' DVD · · Score: 1

Anyone remember the orignal DIVX players not the codec.
It was supposed to be the same thing M$ is proposing now.
It didn't work then and it won't work now.
Just be cheaper for it to be pirated probably with they can write it to hard drive once then burn it to a DVD+R.
If it makes it to market it will not last.

There was another trying to come out with some different layered dye that didn't last either. If anything they need to agree on Standard for DVD and Online Movie Distribution.

Crank them out in MP4 and they can get higher quality on DVD w/o going to HDVD or Blue Ray discs. Still need a new player to handle it. Why are there still black bars on HDTV also. I tried the different settings on TV it either distorts the aspect ratio slightly, crops some off, or both.

    Just my $.02

  3. ASUS K8N-DL on Best Motherboard for a Large Memory System? · · Score: 1

24Gb RAM with 6 slots and Dual Sockets if you want to chnage your mine and add another processor with the nForce Professional chipset that includes PCI-Express for video and regular PCI slots. Built in 10/100/1000 LAN, 8 channel audio, SATA II and etc. The price is $339 for its relase of 4/15. If that is not what you are looking for but similiar start looking under server/workstation boards. Instead of in regular motherboard section for the major motherboard manufacturers.

  4. They get the signal from the same place. on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

Dish Network and DirecTV both get their signals from a Digital Signal off a Ku Band Satellite.
The Cable Co. also gets their signals off of C Band and Ku Band Satellites analog and Digital besides the local signals it gets from Terrestial Anttenas. I've sat here and watched my signal go out when it rained due the cable co lost the signal. The cable co also jacks up prices and has a monopoly. They only have certain packages. While good ol' C Band has serveral providers that let you pick the channels you want besides the ones in the free. While Dish and DirectTV provide you with the packages they have, but you can hack the card and get all the channels for free if you was a less scupulous person. DirectTV and Dish Network are providing free installation and free system for 3 rooms. Which consist of a Dual LNB or Dual LNA Dish and a single LNB/LNA Dish and 3 receivers. There is also the fact that TV's and TV Cards are cable ready for ease of recording on the 1984 case of the VTR with Sony. Digital equipment is being blocked by adding a flags. Then there is the fact of HDTV having cards in the sets to enable the use of Digital Cable so there will no longer need to be a Digital Cable box. While Satellite will still need the receiver to get the signal off the satellites. Cable has also a what they think they need for channels on your lineup while Satellite carries all of them.

There is the info I can best give you as watching Satellite on big C Band dishes as a child and the new DirectTV dishes when I visit home. While I have cable at my house.

  6. McCarthyism on Anti-Patriot Act Movement Expands · · Score: 3, Insightful

Sounds like good ol' fashioned McCarthyism arresting people who we suspect to be Terrorists.
It also is reminiscent of the witch hunts. It also sounds similar to the start of Nazi Germany with the secret police.

Meanwhile, numerous interest groups are taking aim at the Domestic Security Enhancement Act, which would strengthen the Patriot Act by allowing the government to make secret arrests, place unrestricted wiretaps and create DNA databases on ordinary Americans.

We need to protect our privacy or we will no longer be a free nation we will be no better than old Communist Russia where you can't make a move without the government knowing.

  7. Our tax paying dollars at work. on Wind Tunnel for Birds · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Well, It seems like a bunch of scientists have got drunk and high, and decided a new way to have fun watching birds trying to fly at high speed winds. In the meanwhile making it look like scientific research. Most major science discoveries were caused by scientists being high. The names of the subatomic particles for instance so the may actually be on to something, or they are just having fun.

  8. You can only imagine the stuff the europeans have. on Dump Broadband, Dig Out Your Modem! · · Score: 2, Informative

I talk to my friends in Europe and they have some exceleent broadaband in areas over there.
In Sweden they have 10Mb for around $20.
Belgium is loaded with excellent broadband service for cable and dsl. Germany has dsl. They are also getting the Powerline super high speed internet connection going in Germany and Scandinavia. There prices are cheaper for high speed internet than the U.S. I pay $40 for 8Mb,640k ADSL in Korea. While I still pay $40 1Mb,128k in the U.S. We need to get competition in our broadband in the U.S. They are too monopolistic in their prices. One hikes their price and the rest follow suit. My ISP sent me an email saying they were do to the others were. We may I hate to say need government regulation back in some things. I rather they work it out before the government needs to intervene. I only had one problem with my DSL where it was out for 16hours the rest it has been up the whole time.

  9. They will have to change the name then on Winamp Alpha for Linux · · Score: 1

Notice how Nullsoft has it called Winamp, not Linamp. They will have to change the name to show that they now have developed for majority of the experienced users of the world. That is beside the point that most devleoping countries are using Linux or some other open source Unix based OS due to the price compared of using some other OS.

    Just my 2 cents.
