From the linked article, the interviewer asks McBride about his contact with Linus:
I've talked to him via e-mail. He's very pragmatic and tends to be a racehorse with blinders on.... He doesn't want to know about IP or [commercial issues]. He readily admits that IBM has put a lot of code in Linux and says if you want to pursue it [legally], go ahead. But I said to him, 'I appreciate you didn't create the problem, but you have inherited it.' But he won't sign an NDA.
"It is our expectation that those who use our service with unlicensed or unauthorized third-party clients will likely not be able to log on after Oct. 15," Sundwall said. "We would encourage those third parties to contact us to work out agreements by which they can continue to have their customers access our network."
Sundwall would not comment on what type of agreement Microsoft would want with third-party IM software providers. "We are very interested in interoperating with all third parties, there just needs to be a formal agreement," he said.
Still BS, but at least it's not the usual "shut off and don't answer questions policy".

I am sure everytime I apply for a job, employers scan through Google searching for my name. After all, it was what this article was about.
But then again, whether for dating purposes, or otherwise, why would I put up a page saying something that I may regret later? I am aware that search engines will pick up these pages. I suppose I would be a bit worried if something was out there against me that I had no full control over.
Most Linux users at work love Debian from what they have seen on my laptop, but are intimidated by the installer, and what they have heard about it (ie. time consuming, tricky). Therefore, they won't use Debian...
They would rather just put in a Mandrake, or Redhat CD and click a few mouse buttons and off they go with a new system, in less than 1/2 an hour.
This is great news, and I will be keeping an eye on this. Soon enough, I'll make sure to push Debian onto other people once the installer reaches a significant level.
Well done and congratulations to all involved in the Debian-Installer project!
A very similar thing happened to me. Back in '97, I was sent an email requesting that I remove my name from my webpage. This was because the company, using a similar name to mine, was annoyed my webpage was listed first in search results.
You can read the correspondance between them and me here.
They are not around anymore, though I was very interested in what they could have done. Apparantly, a lot.
"Even legitimate business' messages are not being looked at because of the get-rich-quick schemes and pornography and so forth," Jerry Cerasale, the DMA's vice president for government affairs....
Essentially, they are saying "Spam will be sent, but from businesses that we warrant legitimate". Are these pornography companies not legite? Surely, some of them must be...

From the interview with the Xandros executive, Ming Poon:
"The shipping version of Xandros has two CDs. One is the main desktop that we think is good enough and stable enough, and easy enough for people to use. The second CD is basically KDE 3, so the bleeding edge users can try it out to see what the fuss is all about. We are trying to satisfy both worlds, as opposed to just satisfying the bleeding edge.
The Taliban, though, are also just as bad. They haven't done justice to their people either. Trust me: I have been there. I have seen it with my own eyes!
As someone who went to Afghanistan to visit, I can say it is a beautiful place. The people are beautiful, as well as the scenaries.
What some people should understand is that if America went to ground war, we will not be fighting Afghanistan. We will be fighting the Taliban. Big distinction there. The Northern Alliance (their leader was killed a few weeks ago - this should have been a wake up call for what happened in the US) are going to help the US with intellegance and ground about 20,000 ground troops.
The war would be easier if countries cut off sending aid to the Taliban...

This, I am really happy about.

Reminds me of some awful news stations around here:
Although only 300 people died in the earthquake, it could have been worst.
