I personally think Flash sucks because it's used widely in intrusive and annoying advertising. I don't think Microsoft's tech will be any different in this regard, so I wish hot steaming death on both.
Well if the profs spent more time teaching kid Economics, and less time preacing "OMG Anything with the word Nuclear in it is bad, and Bush wants all your money" there would be less of a problem. Political awareness is important, but the last fuckign people on the planet that should be influencing college kids are (most) College professors. Profs working in public universities are barely qualified to wipe their own asses, much less make decisions regarding the future of the planet. Unfortunately, children think these blowhards actually know something about the real world.

What, exactly would I have to appologize for? the actual radiation exposure would be something like being out in the sun slightly longer than you should without sunscreen. That's not great, but frankly if I was concerned about that, I'd make a point of not living within threat range of the cape.
Get over it.
They are very serious about minimizing the exposure, which is why the teams were deployed, but the actual danger is negligable.
No, I wouldn't "appologize". I have nothing to appologize for, and certainly not to you.
I dont' disagree with that aspect, I was just hoping that they would frame it in that manner. that's why I referred to "passing Luna's orbit". Referring to Earth's Moon that way is an artifact to having dated a Wiccan years ago.

Gotta agree with you there. I can't stand people that are ignorant enough to protest anything with the word "nuclear" attached to it. Blind ignorance is all that is. They don't even have the most basic understanding of what they are protetsting. They're simply doing it because some hippy teacher during their education told them that they should.
I don't think I'd want to play DDR on a first date, even if I LIKED the shit music that oozes from those machines. Maybe if I was a meathead jock I would like it, but then I wouldn't be taking my date to an arcade for a first date anyhow.
Exactly. Not only that, DDR is what is killing the arcade. If D&B has dropped it, good on them. Crap music + uncoordinated geeks "dancing" = no one wants to come in.
Seriously, the garbage that the DDR type games spew is way to loud (and it sucks). It ruins the atmosphere of the arcade, and makes the actual GAMES difficult to play. The spectacle of goths and nerds spazing out to techno shit is even more repulsive.
It's no wonder the American Arcade is dead. Bitching about one of the last chains to remain excluding the entire reason the Arcade has died is disingenous at best.
To the Submitter: Go eat Xstacy and die of an embolism. Be at one with the shit you listen to and dance to.
Perhaps so that he doesn't have to run WEP on his wireless access point and provide free internet to anyone who cares to crack it? (not to mention potential access to his network...) Yea WPA isn't perfect, but if there's easier networks around, it's less likely to be the target of choice.... that being said, I wound up putting wireless on a seperate segment of my network for my PSP, since I couldn't get WPA to cooperate with me there. I just turn off the antenna on the router that handles that segment if I'm not using the wireless. I could care less if people see my game packets, but I'm not providing a connection for others on my dime:)
It's still going to be cheaper in the end to buy a new camera body when the shutter goes than to pay for all the film and processing necessary for a film SLR for the same period of time.
There is no formula in which Film is going to come out as the more economical choice.
Here's a suggestion for you. Fuck off and mind your own business.
What you like about MMOs is not the same as what I like, or what many others like. Soloers do not detract from your game, so why bitch about them?
When I go to a bar, I go there to be in a place where other people are. I don't go to hook up with the first sorry hag that thinks I look lonely. Sometimes I go to meet up with friends, sometimes I go to have a drink.
Same thing with MMOs.
Not everyone is just like you. Those of us who are slightly less gregarious want, will pay for, and will continue to be a target market for these sorts of games.
DDO has made a decision not to target soloers and that's fine. To make statements like "don't play any MMO if you ever want to solo" is simply assinine.
IMO, the entire UI is abysmal dark grey and tan with random amounts of transparency, too much chrome, and everything can be accidentally dragged about... I'm passing too.
It's a vast improvement over what was there in alpha (and at least now you can lock down the shortcut buttons), but yea it's hardly ready to ship... there's a lot of what I had assumed were place-holder graphics still in the UI.
Thanks for your OPINION, but a significant number of players disagree with you.
I never said that I wanted to solo ALL the time, but I do want options when my friends are not available. I do not choose to include grouping with J Random Stranger as one of those options. I've played these games for YEARS and life (and my available gaming time) is too short to waste my time on what is 99% of the time a frustrating and fruitless effort. The chat system in DDO is absolutely horrible, and it's actually a vast improvement over the interface available in Alpha. Simply put, it makes the process of putting a party together even more painful and fruitless as it is in other games.
As to "soloing" PnP D&D, I've done it. Way back in the 80's when I was in High School, there were very few of us that played. Often only two of us had time to play. In those situations one would GM and the other would pad out his "party" with henchmen. Not ideal, but honestly what fucking business is it of yours what I or anyone other than yourself enjoy anyhow?
To those saying "you're playing it wrong": Bullshit. I'm playing the way I'm going to get maximum enjoyment out of it. I fucking well WILL judge a game and its suitability based on MY criteria.
It's not like I'm asking them to change the game to suit me. I'll simply take my dollar elsewhere. There are plenty of MMOs out there with content available for people who want to solo, rather than hang out and try to scrape up a group of griefers and AOL kiddies. I'll play one of those.
I have to agree. If I could hire NPCs, the game might be salvageable. As it sits, I won't be subscribing. I (as you) will not pay the server fee for the players that can actually spare the time to group up all the time.
and the basic game itself is pretty impressive in implementation.
Unfortunately, making any real progress while soloing is completely impossible. This has gone back and forth throughout beta. At the present time, due to "diminishing returns" when you re-enter a dungeon, you can forget "leveling through perseverence".
I don't group with strangers, and my friends are only available occasionally (and the chat system is abysmal, which makes identifying competent players with which to group extremely difficult), so I'll be passing on this one.
Auto Assault has some of the flavor, at least in the combat system, but it's not Car Wars. To its credit, Auto Assault addresses terrain that would never be conceivable in the table-top context. It's a great game, and similar in genre, but it's not Car Wars.
Well were it me, I'd have to admit that I wouldn't be any good at it, but I'd hate it more because I don't care for the kind of music DDR uses (or that you would dance to for that matter). I'm in the minority in this, as DDR was wildly popular. People don't tend to play games that force them to experience activities or sensations that they despise.
I was more disappointed that the entire rant was short enough to fit in the summary. While I don't disagree with everything he said, he did a poor job of supporting his statements.
A better case might be that oversaturation of those sorts of games homogenized the arcade and made it generally boring. Even chocoholics can only eat so much chocolate. And when much of it winds up being carob or some other kind of mock-chocolate... well the experience becomes diluted.
Meanwhile those that don't like chocolate have no choice left to them at all.
the first sentence should read "I missed the part of the story mentioning the addition of PvP to EQ2".
I post too quickly.
BTW, why does waiting between postings "allow everyone a fair chance at posting a comment."? It's not like Joe Bob can't post when I do because I'm hogging the pencil.
Why not have the message just say "We don't want people posting with automated scripts and flooding the thread" and be clear about it?
I missed the PvP part. I didn't play EQ2 for long, but one of the saving graces that I felt it had was that there didnt' seem to be a danger of them falling into the "nerf everyone so that PvP will be 'ballanced'" trap.
Glad I didn't re-subscribe during the last couple months when I've been bored with WoW...

A good headline for now would be that it's passing Luna's orbit about now, but the launch is definitely not news.

I'd also recommend that in the future when one of these companies recommends pre-ordering, you remind them of this fiasco.
Stop doing the Manager's job (figuring out what to order) for him.
