Remember that he wrote A New Kind of Science at night, while he continued to run a successful multi-million dollar software enterprise during the day. The peer review jury is still partly out on ANKOS.
Oh please! A lot of scientists do their work in between "regular" jobs out of necessity. That has been truth throughout history. Einstein was famously a patent clerk.
Wolfram's contribution is mathematica. The only jury still out on ANKOS is the jury deciding if his work is fraudulent. It should be called a new book of self contratulatory BS.
There is a poster calendar in my office from Breitling that shows a picture of Mr. Rossy in formation with four Breitling aerobatic jets from an airshow in 2009.
These impactical adventurer types. He should be monetizing the idea. Just picture it - a squidgee taped to his arm, and a sign taped to his torso that reads "$5 to clean your windows"? *grin* Oh and he should change his name to Benny and team up with the band that made the son;-)
Meanwhile in the real world R/C clubs are dying off in the cities as land has become way too expensive and the population too densly packed to tolerate small aircraft falling out of the sky just so people can get their thrills.
Newsflash: Sometimes people leave the city for recreation.
And now I'll really blow your mind: Some people don't even live in cities to begin with
Newsflash. Majority of the population lives in cities. Newsflash, modern life means opportunities to go away have severly decreased. Newsflash: r/c flying requires practice and upkeep.
With so many news flashes perhaps you should take up photography.
That's quite an imagination you have there. Did you orgasm as you finished writing that?
Meanwhile in the real world R/C clubs are dying off in the cities as land has become way too expensive and the population too densly packed to tolerate small aircraft falling out of the sky just so people can get their thrills.
Microsoft have a Checkered past. They have such a Monopoly on movement sensors, it becomes a game of Chess for developers. The whole Operation should be a Snap for Microsoft. But for customers who pay and pay again it's more like Snakes And Ladders. I hope they keep Up Words about how it's proceeding. I'll be jumping on it like a Hungry Hippo. Just hope they don't Sink My Battleship!
Let's all just give up and use self signed certs. Sure it's not secure but at least you don't have to pay for them then go through all the security theatre to pretend they are. You could change your web page to "Welcome. All our base are belong to YOU. We give up."
But here's my problem: Fully aside from this guy being a genuine quack, why not just test his therapy fully and completely? Follow his specs and advice to the proverbial "T". Prove him wrong beyond a reasonable doubt and put an end to it.
Probably because like all charlitans he'll always claim that you haven't followed his specs - that you've misunderstood or misapplied them. Do you think such people are above lying and manipulating? So you've got nothing to gain. It's expensive and a headache and at the end he'll always claim he's right, you're wrong, and you can't follow simple directions so how can you be trusted? Meanwhile he keeps shifting his goalposts to make you look bad.
I was going to poke fun at you for the repeated swearing, but I read further and I just can't do it. That sounds awful and I'm sorry for you and your wife. Good for you for sticking with her through that ordeal.
Nonsense. There are things that won't kill you but will leave you weak like an infant, so that you suffer miserably until something else comes along and kills you.
Friedrich Nietzsche was a moron.
Sticks and stones can break your bone. But calling Nietzsche a moron only makes him stronger.
Nonsense. There are things that won't kill you but will leave you weak like an infant, so that you suffer miserably until something else comes along and kills you.
Then you can explain to me why those who are supposedly providing me "herd immunity" get visibly infected and sick on a regular basis, and I don't.
Hint - it's not any so-called "immune response" from their vaccines.
I'll bite, is it because you're so obnoxious that nobody and no disease wants to be around you???
You have no idea what you're talking about. Immunisation has it's risks (and it would not carry any risk if it was snake oil). But the benefit far outweighs the risk. You may well have a good immune system. I'll also agree that an overly sanitary environment is not good for children and that some germs will help their immunity, but you have to be selective. I don't let my children play in their own vomit, faeces and urine for instance, nor our dog's. I don't let them eat their dinner straight off the floor. The bottom line is that your chances of surviving a new deadly disease depends largely upon immunisation. Entire diseases have been eliminated. I don't care that you don't like it - the truth does not bend to a person's whims.
Please realize that as good as Star Trek can be for entertainment, it is only very loosely based on reality and not a template of what is to come.
The fact is that 100+ years ago, you could redeploy your skills if your job was automated. The same is still true today, but to a lesser extent, because more can be automated. If we ever get machines that can do everything a human being can do but more efficiently, the idea of a human being earning a living is going to go the way of the dinosaur.
That was the argument of the original Luddites, but here we are 200 years later and it still isn't true. I'm not discounting that it may be true someday, but it seems that, as the world became more mechanised, people found that there were other jobs that they wanted doing.
This is only true while there are jobs that only a human being can do.
All taken in account, we have an income tending to zero, with expenses also tending to zero. Deriving those curves would be usefull if we knew them, but we don't, and they get even harder to know once they approach zero.
In my experience expenses always tend to infinity. There are presures from the economic system that add to this (such as the need for positive inflation) but there is also scarcity of resources and other natural limits as population increases.
You work 12- hour days and you're complaining? I'm a resident physician and work 12 hours shifts everyday. Plus, I have to take call which translates into 30-hour shifts on occasion. My personal record is 32 hours awake in the hospital---and that's after Congress stepped in and created the work-hour limitations.
The medical industry is severly broken. You wouldn't let a truck driver operate his vehicle 12 hours straight, let alone 32. If he did and he had an accident he'd be imprisoned. Yet doctors do insane shifts. That is just plain ridiculous. You need to have your shifts limited to 8 hours in any 24 hour period and train a lot more doctors. The reason this isn't happening is your medical associations artificially limit supply of doctors to drive rates up for the elite specialists. Again ridiculous. How many people have died because a doctor has been too tired to do their job properly and has made a mistake. Do I dare ask you if you've ever made a fatal mistake due to fatigue, and how you live with it?
This trend of workers demanding fun jobs with luxurious working conditions has got to stop! I don't pay you to be happy and like your job. I pay you to make me rich! Now quit whining and get to work!
You can't pay anyone anything because your pocket money isn't enough to share and your mother's basement is too small to set up an office.
The best part of the (sorta) linked article is that the author of EA Spouse now works for Zynga as Lead Systems Designer. That poor couple just can't catch a break!
The "poor couple" are idiots. Why would you stay in the games industry after that experience? Get out! Or at the very least refuse to do the overtime and leave if they force you out. If you have a passion for games, get working on an indie game in your spare time - who cares how far you get....or you know spend some time actually playing games others make.
It's more insidious than that. If you do a job that can be automated, you are already redundant. Automation will only increase. On the flip side we have ever cheaper labour due to globalisation. The idea of earning your living doing an honest day's work is coming under severe pressure. Artificially retricting the automation is a band aid at best. Imagine what would happen if we were to suddenly have robots with human like abilities but not wants and desires - if that sci fi dream is ever realised the idea of having a job is going to become rather antiquated.
So if we don't destroy ourselves we will eventually need a change to our economic systems and our ideas on earning - that will be a huge and devasting change to make - unlike any other in history. Earning a living is an idea deeply ingrained into most societies. Our entire economy will need to be reworked if the vast majority are not to starve. What's more it must be done sustainably with the finite resources we have. The change isn't going to be pretty..
I would argue that I know rather a bit more about evolution than most and probably on par with most/.ers
Haha, this comes from the same person who says:
There is the developed eye which is inexplicable which I mentioned earlier. I take similarities to indicate a common designer as that is the simplest explanation it causes all that complexity to collapse into a single idea.
And then you complain about being ridiculed.
I don't know who you were quoting, but it wasn't me. I did not say I know more about evolution than most. Nor is the other quote attributable to me.
I would argue that I know rather a bit more about evolution than most
Then by all means, prove it. Thus far, the only thing demonstrated has been your lack of knowledge. Ironically, it is your rhetoric that feels "shoved down my throat". On the one hand we have a pile of evidence and a concrete basis for an interpretation. On the other you have your arguments for that same evidence to be interpreted differently without a concrete basis to start the analysis from.

I had to look up "Rolfing" (some kind of chiropracty, seems like). I was hoping it would be "Rofling", formally known as "ROFL therapy".
Torchering your patients with Rolf Harris is now considered chiropracty???
Ever met a sociopath?
No, please to meet you Mr Sociopath. Do you have a first name? Mine's Sammy.

The hottest coffee I've ever been served was from a Starbucks (primarily the reason they no longer get my business).
Donald Trump is that you???

Yeah, they laid off a good chunk of their employees and closed a bunch of offices since then.
I thought they banned having spouses.
Efficiency is evil.
