  1. Re:"Compatible" on Slashback: Embed, Dougal, FireWire · · Score: 4, Informative

The new Firewire is signal compatible, but it has a new plug. So you need adapters to plug old cables into the new PowerBooks.

Actually, the new powerbooks (as awesome as they are) come complete with an 1394 AND 1394b connections. So users won't need adapters, they'll just have two ports for their firewire peripherals. If the user takes up all the bandwidth on the 400mb/s port, he can then get an adapter for the 800mb/s and keep on adding new devices.

Apple will think of any problem like this before release, and then fix it.

And at the beginning of last month (Octobre) they opened a new service called shawondemand (www.shawondemand.net) where you can order a movie by the internet and as long as you have internet and digital cable through them (I know... *cough* monopoly). You can order a movie online, and watch it through your calbe box hooked up to your TV INSTANTLY. It has play, pause, rew. ff. and all the basic features, you also get it for 24 hours to play as many times as you want.
The only quams (sp?) that I have about the service is the lack of new titles they have (sure they got LOTR, Blade II, 40 days/nights/ and bunch other titles, But you watch a movie a month, and that's all on there list thats appealing. oh, also all the adult you can imagine, that rivals there normal movies), and the lack of widescrean. But all in all, it's a cool service here, also you can watch music videos, trailers and stuff for there videos for free.
It'll be nice to see how there new revisions are the service go.

ok, lets work this one out.
    $200 for the xbox
$100 for the mod and install
$100 - $200 for a descent hard drive to install.
and probably about 10 hours trying to install and configure everything.
To me, this doesn't look like that great of a deal. Although, with all the other shit you can get with it like pirated games, emulators with more pirated roms, oh wait, lets see the emulators is built using ms's sdk too, so the emulators are is illegal. But wait, Media Player is clean, oh no, it was pirated off of mplayer (that's why they had to release the source).

I'm sorry, but paying like 400-500 bucks american for a basic non-configurable computer computer just doesn't do it for me, let me buy a cheap PC and stick an extra 128mb of ram in it and run linux for cheaper, since I'm not into pirating stupid ms games. Also for the application I might as well throw some TIVO like software into it too.

Plus, even if I did have an xbox, I'd just run mplayer under linux instead of this stupid nock (sp?) off anyways, so it truly doesn't make sense to me.

first off, yes I was one of those 13 people running openbsd (2.8, why fix something when it ain't broke... yet) but I moved outta my parent's basement 2 months ago, so can I ask you what category I've moved into now?
Anyways, as I previously stated I'm still running 2.8, it runs great, I can't see myself replacing it with anything but maybe 3.2 when it's released.
Also, I live in Calgary, home of Theo De Raadt, and am looking forward to the first seminar I can see of his.

Have a good time dissing other distros. let me guess darwin, net and the countless different linux distros suck too?

ok, I like the specs (about time the crusoe started coming out in PC's), I like the fact that that it's enviromentally friendly (although, who knows, maybe the recycling plant gave them a good deal). But seriously, why do the gateway thing and copy the new imac. Is it just me, or is everyone getting tired of see'ing new cool apple products, then months later, see copies of them coming out which would not hold the quality of the orignal (mac).

    just my thought.

  10. 13.8 MP is overkill for many situations on 13.8MP Kodak Tops Previously Leaked Canon · · Score: 1

I have done tech work at a photographic studio/digital lab for the last 4 years. Anyways oabout 3 years ago we purchased a DCS 660 and about 1 year ago we purchased a DCS 760. Both of these cameras are based on Nikons F5 body and use a 6MP CCD. For what we use them for, we can print up to a 12x18 (12x24 rarely) prints on our noritsu QSS-2711 printer (400dpi direct to photographic paper printer). Anyways, although the images are interpolated from 18MB to a little larger than 100MB's when printed the pictures still come out very sharp, around the equivilant of 35mm negative on the same equiptment. All I could see these cameras being better for is for the very rare consumber who may want to make a family picture larger than a 16x20.
Also, another thing too, is that with this camera, it will make images 41.4MB's large, your going to need to upgrade your computer to manage these files properly, and probably going to have to buy an extra hard drive for temp storage, and then get a dvd-r for permanent storage. In my opionion, with the results that we get, I'm happy to stay at 6MP's for the time being.
