Could this be used to secure wireless networking? This would be an ideal way, because it is only understandable at one location. I don't know if it would work well though on Seattle Wireless or Brismesh style 802.11 networks.
I did a CCNA course, and IIRC they said that Cisco IOS is a highly optimised multitasking operating system built from the ground up for the routers. Maybe the original poster was confused between IOS and DOS.
Why don't you merge code with the Atheos project, which is already a long way towards a "user" operating system. Some stuff Atheos has done would probably be better than the BeOS code, and some BeOS would be useful to add to Atheos.
is why they sold out to VA Linux in the first place. In Australia for less than $AUD250 and 13.9cents a MB, I can get an SDSL connection that could easily handle the same sort of traffic as slashdot. Why didn't they just keep/. to themselves, instead of giving heaps of profit and control to VA Linux?
I wouldn't pay 5cents for a million Huge Square Ads. I will NEVER EVER buy ANYTHING(even if it's the last item in the world) from those who pay for those ads. Those extra big ads will be useless, because everyone will hate them and ignore them.
Personally if I see something I like in the banner at the top of the page, I'll go and have a look at it, and see what I think. But huge big ads taking up space and ruining layout I will never look at. I think that most people here would think the same.
Okay, I better deinstall linux from my desktop's because this guy say's it's a loser. I have 5 people at my company happily using Linux for everything on the desktop. Most of them aren't that good with computers, but have no problems. But I better just chuck that all out because some idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about says "Linux is a loser" on the desktop.
1. Yes it is. It has been ported to Atheos.
2. Kurt just created Qt wrappers for the Atheos GUI functions to get it to work on Atheos. This could be done for Windows. Also they could just release the browser under the GPL.
3. That's debatable.
4. Possibly...

I hope it's not like Herbie from those "Love Bug" movies. Otherwise it will go off chasing other cars it likes, or show off when stopped next to hotted up cars at traffic lights. It would be cool to have a car that could drive itself, and do wheelies and stuff though. I wonder if they will release a VW Beatle version of it....
I would commit to landing on mars by the end of the decade, and I would also commit to a project to provide cheap crew and experiment access to the station. A small shuttlecraft that could carry 6 people or some experiment racks to the station, but no cargo bay or anything would be brilliant.
What I want is a small robotic dinosaur like that. Based on the Veloceraptor, and about 1 metre high. It would be cool to have one of them that could be programmed with the behaviour that you want, and it would have to be able to freely move around. Just the thing for keeping the next-door neighbors annoying cat out of the garden!!!!!:-)
With open source I can also email the developers directly, and ask them for a feature. I can discuss the feature with them, to come up with the best all round solution to the problem.
So what are they going to do?

Port Palm OS to the PC or something? That could be interesting....
I have prior art. I use templates for all my websites. Instead of creating a new product page from scratch I always have a pre-made template which i then modify. Can I please have $10 million dollars? Thanks,
Another way to fix this, is to make the P2P programs automatically inform other members of the network of suspect nodes. If a suspect node connects to another machine, and does something wierd, a universal ban message would be sent. The ban would expire after 24 hours, to allow the IP's to be allowed back in after that time, in case of dynamic IP's. You don't want to block out legitamate users because the happen to get the same IP that the RIAA was using earlier.
That's what I meant. I don't think it would take long for someone to port Linux across, but I wonder if the phone stuff is handled in proprietary software? In that case a phone running Linux wouldn't work as a phone unless someone reverse engineer the phone bit.

KHTML is better IMHO.

Some reasons why this would be bad:
- It would be more cost-effective to build a solar power station 10 times larger on the ground
- It could cause atmospheric problems, heating etc. What if a plane flies through the beam, would it's electronics get mucked up?
- The reciever station would be massive anyway
- It would be better to give every house a solar roof

It wouldn't stop the real crackers, and thus wouldn't stop the script kiddies who use tools written by the real crackers.

That reminds me of slashcode, while reading it. And yes I did read the article, but I only read the abstract bit.

Something that is more useless than a real cat!! I thought it would never happen!

I've been using this since before then.
What they've patented is just a software wizard that does what I just said. That's not innovative enough IMHO to justify a patent.
a patent of beowulf clusters?
:-P

What is the difference between Hurd and Linux? I've read the websites, but is there a real benefit of using HURD?

Can you run it on Linux? ;-)
