    Just as an aside:

    It's easy to have less corruption when your entire population (and thus government) is less than 2% the size of the US.

    The entire country of denmark has a smaller total population than most US states. Hell, New York City has a population nearly double that of all of denmark...

    Try comparing countries of roughly equal population, or at least somewhere in the same magnitude of size and you might get somewhat less nonsensical data.

    the lower productivity from use of the far slower transmeta CPUs would have far greater impact on profit margin than the small amount of money saved from lower power bills.

    for offices, its a complete non issue. switching to LCD monitors provides a far greater savings and no productivity loss.

    for most of the rest of the world, "travel abroad" amounts to driving an hour or two at most. then boom, you're in a completely different country with completely different customs and languages.

    maybe you're counting "travel abroad" as in germans visiting france or something?

    'travel abroad' for the USA is on a completely different scale altogether. perhaps convenience has something to do with it? the percentage of australian citizens that hold a passport is a distinct minority as well...

    there still seem to be lots of them. dutch ISPs dont seem too worried about getting rid of them, seeing as i will get repeat nigerian scams from the same ip address for weeks or months on end. eg tiscali.nl, home.nl, solcon.nl, bbeyond.nl, concepts.nl...

    i have to wonder though -- why is the netherlands the favorite residence of nigerian criminals, next to their native nigeria?

    meh, i guess i sort of answered my own question... dutch ISPs are lazy, that's why nigerian criminals love to operate their scams in the netherlands.
