Seriously. Just fail them. Tell them the only way they'll get a degree from a respected institution is to not be an idiot. Doesn't matter what your degree is in, if you think your magic book has all the answers you are delusional and not degree-worthy material.

  2. Comcast *is* filtering Google Traffic on Google Caught in Comcast Traffic Filtering? · · Score: 1

I've been having this problem for months now. Comcast will just drop all HTTP connections to Google's servers. I can resolve DNS just fine (today's numbers are 72.14.253.104, 72.14.253.103, 72.14.253.147, 72.14.253.99 - these change based on your geographical location), but HTTP connections to those IPs will get immediately dropped through Comcast. If I SSH Proxy to my server in a local data center, I can connect to those IPs just fine.

I spoke with Comcast Tier 1 tech support, the kind woman I spoke to for an hour couldn't figure it out. We reset my modem, firewall and computers multiple times without luck. Supposedly this has been escalated and I'll be getting a call back from a higher-up, we'll see.

At what point does blocking a website mean that they are no longer providing internet service? What if the only site I could browse was www.comcast.net? This really stinks of the larger net neutrality issue, and problems like this will most likely continue unabated until legislation is passed. Comcast has no reason to stop screwing their customers, since they have such little competition. The only other internet service I can get is Verizon DSL, but they don't provide the same speed service. If we had more options and more competition trouble like this would be short lived.

I was hoping for some good code, it is from IBM after all, but its nothing more than crappy javascript from '99. Someone buy this guy the DOM Scripting book (http://www.domscripting.com/) and teach him what the seperation of structure (XHTML), presentation (CSS) and behavior (javascript) is all about.

Do you have any facts to backup your assertion that thottbot.com is owned by IGE? The only ads I see on thottbot.com are google ads, which can pull up anyone's site, even IGE's competitors.

No kidding their instructions sucked. Here's a step-by-step:
    0. If you have not tried the test already, skip steps 1-3.
    1. Copy these instructions to Notepad.
    2. Close all browser windows.
    3. Open a new browser window to
    http://secunia.com/multiple_browsers_window_injec tion_vulnerability_test/
    4. Skip down to "Step 2" and click the link appropriate for your system. The vast majority of users will click on the link "Test Now - With Pop-up Blocker - Left Click On This Link".
    5. Click on the "Consumer Alert" image on the right of Citibank's page.
If the exploit was successful, the pop-up window from Citibank will attempt to open a site from secunia.com. I don't know what that page looks like, only that their webserver didn't respond when I tried going there.

I hope this helps the vast masses of smart /.'ers who don't care to take 10 minutes to decompile secunia's instructions.
  6. Specific Applications on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

I only boot to Windows for specific applications: Games (not UT2k3 though), Xilinx Device Programming (for my EE class) and Adobe software (mainly acrobat). Although it mainly just boils down to just doing EE homework in windows, then booting back to linux for the rest of the week.

On my laptop, I run mostly linux, except for D&D sessions, where I'm in windows to use Adobe Acrobat and various D&D applications. I get over 2x the battery life in linux than in Windows.

Alright, so Perl is a language there, and gets a score, but for all my trying, I can't get it to be the number one language for me, what gives?

Other than that, this is useful information, a good site.
