It seems to me there should be a fourth category: gas giants. They are considered planets, but there's more differences between Earth and Uranus than there are between Mars and Pluto.
Yes, and out here in the windy midwest, the same liberal idiots who wanted the wind energy are the same liberal idiots who are now screaming and crying for us to take OUT the wind farms that were built, due to the turbines killing migratory birds. They don't want ugly wires, poles, transformer stations, wind turbines, or coal. They just want their techno-toys to work on magic and unicorn piss.
Exactly!!! When I replaced my oven, it was almost as old as I am! And though my olde TV had been "obsolete" for years, I could keep using it until I was ready to replace it. Why should a perfectly good computer running XP (or Snow Leopard for that matter) have an expiration date?
Well, yeah, but that was a long time ago. Surely, Apple wouldn't obsolete perfectly good software to replace it with something not as good as the old stuff.
The big difference is FDIC. If my bank goes pfft, my money is insured. If Mt Gox goes pfft, my bitcoins go pfft. I don't consider banks to be inherently trustworthy either, but the government has a huge interest in keeping people happy, since a total economic collapse will screw them too. Nobody has an incentive to keep Mt Gox's victims happy, including Mt. Gox.
I've never seen the crazy homeless guy on the bus stab anyone, but I certainly have seen, and smelled the crazy homeless guy, and it's not pretty. I agree the odds of getting stabbed are fairly low, but I don't blame anyone for wanting to avoid riding on the stinking (literally) busses.
Most for-profit businesses have competition from other for-profit businesses. You can't charge $10 for a widget if Acme Widget sells the same thing for $5. Comcast has a monopoly or a duopoly, which means there is no $5 widget to drive prices down.
This! I might expect problems in the boondocks of Southern Missouri, but I see no reason why Kansas City or St Louis can't be as advanced in broadband as Europe.
The worst one will be politically connected neighborhoods that presently have tons of traffic because these people built their houses in a high traffic area. So they will demand (and get) that the government mandate that driverless cars detour around their precious streets..
Or, businesses arranging to have traffic go past their stores in the hope that some will stop and buy their crap.
If it goes by facial expressions, I might not even be mad. Maybe I just have gas.
Actually, Uranus is, barely, visible to the naked eye. But most people avoided looking at it, for obvious reasons.

Anyone who knows Cobol/C++/Java/Perl can understand it perfectly.
I want 3.14 pieces of it.
Yes, you're supposed to cut out the middleman. Let the hackers steal directly from you instead of going through a third party.

Nah! The unicorn piss pollutes the water.
The funny thing is, when I forget my password, some sites reset me to a pw like that - then make me change it to something memorable.
One of my bank sites doesn't allow special characters. Only letters & numbers.
As soon as I start singing, they throw rotten fruit at me!
Just like bankers in the Depression.

I'd guess the criminals have already cashed out their bitcoins. They don't care if bitcoin goes bust, beyond having one less scam to run.
There's a reason why few people carry cash suitcases, or stuff large amounts of cash under their mattresses.
I thought it was "for all intensive porpoises", though I don't understand how dolphins are involved.

The cops might not have the time or resources to sort it out, but if the search is fraudulent, the lawyers sure have the time.

I knew they gave me one. But I never used it, and if anyone had asked for my list of emails, I probably wouldn't have even thought about it.

The fact that a speeding car uses the same emergency shutdown technique as my Windows laptop is just plain scary!
My "Hello World" program worked perfectly - until I added the ability to ask for a name (like "Hello John"), and got an overflow. :-P
