"Soon after his comment became public, violent threats followed and the 55-year-old Berthold agreed to leave the campus for a week for his safety, a spokeswoman said. He has apologized, saying, "I was a jerk. But the First Amendment protects my right to be a jerk." An internal investigation is under way."
Hmm... he has a rigth to be a jerk just as UNM has a right to fire jerks.
"the utterly amazingly geeky thing about this sim is that it builds the flight model from just analysis of the plane parts,"
Flight Unlimited, commercial fs was one of the first on the market to use this kind of model instead of state machine which was common back then.
It was around 1995 or 1996.
I fail to see what's so great about this X-Plane.
Hey dude, I have nothing against Apache when it is running on Unix.
Apache on NT is a joke and not even close to being competitive to IIS.
"Just another clueless PHB shoving immature, insecure, expensive and crappy products down the IT dept's throat because of something they read in PC magazine. "
I am senior developer working on Unix 70% of time.
I just don't subscribe to that stupid Unix/Linux worship that seems to be so prevalent on this "geek" site.
Use what works best and Apache does NOT work well on NT.
"Obviously this guy doesn't know what he is talking about."
Not true, especially in regard to client apps.
BTW. Interesting how I can run 6 year old Win32 binaries on my Win2000 box while I am unable to run 2 years old Linux binary on the latest RH.
"That makes the cost of cross-platform development extremely high, since the abstraction layers are so different."
What the hell are you talking about ?
Xlib offers basic drawing operations and so does GDI. Period.
The only difference is that Win32 comes with bunch of built-in widgets ( written using the very same GDI and NOT some "hidden" API) which are equivalent of GDK and parts of Qt.
"They can't migrate from Windows API to another unless extremely thick abstraction layers are used."
Yeah, can you migrate from mainframe to another OS easily ?
Hell, what we have here is another toy OS, this time from IBM!
"On a related note, this is why I continue to insist that Windows is a toy OS."
Do so, if it makes you happy. Most people will simply bypass you on their way to ahead...
I saw that movie but the question is..
Were British justified in implementing harsh measures against all suspects?
Who knows.. maybe because of these measures, which resulted in injustice to couple of innocent, they saved hundreds of other innocent lives.
Tough choice.
No , there is a difference .
US did not support "bad guys" going into Russia and blowing up their civilians.
US supported these people in their fight against unprovoked invasion from USSR.
We never gave them any license or even encouraged them to become terrorists.
If you fail to see a difference here then you have a problem.
"Also, Internet web sites can add capacity *almost* at the flip of a switch. (As slashdot did that day.) "
"Compare that to television and radio which each have a finite amount of capacity"
That is NOT an advantage of the Internet as TV has INFINITE amount of capacity.
Adding capacity to Internet web sites makes them only more accessible solving problem that does not even exist in TV & radio business.
Really?
Having bunch of political operatives limiting and deciding about "socially" acceptable prices for various products was a big part of soviet system.
Prohibiting contributions does not work and simply forces politicians to come up with workarounds, which often end up being outside of the law.
US political system acknowledges this fact and allows people to transfer money in the open which allows us to KNOW who is giving who and how much.
We can judge their intentions and loyalties based on that knowledge.
Europe is just as corrupted as US is , the difference being that you don't know who is paying who until there is a big scandal and suddenly public learns that this well liked person has been taking bribes for the last 10 years.
Thanks for that post but I am sure Jews would come up with enough valid reasons to support their brutal ways of handling various problems.
Basically what you are doing here is blaming human nature which is fine but doesn't get us far.
"Why do western states now give 600.000.000$ for food for the afghan people to prevent mass starving, and didn't do it before? "
Why should we ?
Again, do you believe that our prosperity is a directly related to their inability to maintain civilized and proficient society ?
Do we owe anything to these people?
Do we have obligation to help all people who are less fortunate then we are ?
Does that extend only to people who threaten us if we don't help them ?
There are lots of questions like that once you get into this "nation building" business.
A World Court?
Run by folks who kicked US and invited Sudan with known slavery record into human-right committee ?
"1) Because thats the legal way of doing things"
Whose legal way? Hell, kicking Jews was perfectly legal in Nazi Germany.
Severe punishment of women for ridiculous offenses is very much considered legal and needed in some countries that are part of ONZ.
To hell with your World Court...

"Apache on NT doesn't run in Ring 0." ...?
Nither does IIS.
I wonder where that rumor came from
"Microsoft anything -- we all know why. "
No, we don't.
Please elaborate .
Hey dude, I have nothing against Apache when it is running on Unix.

Come on. ...
That was not funny, bordering on lame
"You're kidding, right?"
No but I am happy you are not working for me.
Why didn't you just run IIS ?
It is definately better choice in Win32 platform and even Apache folks admit that.
"Obviously this guy doesn't know what he is talking about."

I am sure you never fucked up and your past choices always benefit you in the future.
Funny isn't it ?
How would a nation dare to actualy enforce its own laws?
"They don't care about the Taliban and the people in Afghanistan, they just want bin Laden and that's all."
They said exactly that many times. Give up Bin Ladin or give up power.
How is that being hypocritical ?

Hell, maybe , just maybe they know better than you ?
Isn't that possible or you are much smarter than all these people ?
No I prefer US.
I actually have more fight in US politicians than I ever had in Eurocrats.
Linux is not strictly European OS.
It is more like their clone of US OS.
Yeah, sounds more and more like Soviet system.
Prohibiting contributions does not work and simply forces politicians to come up with workarounds, which often end up being outside of the law.

I am US citizen born and raised in Europe.
