It really amazes me the lengths that people go to not have to put any effort into anything. When someone gets something that's free and it stops working they make all the complaints in the world to get some form of credit so it gets them free money they were never entitled to in the first place. This young lady is I'm sure violating the school's honor code by doing this, but granted she spent money so she wants her product. I agree the company did kind of pull a dochebag move, but the girl should have also known the risks of cheating.
I work for one of the cable companies(I shall remain nameless in that regard). The amount of customers that fly off the handle when there's a box update and the box reboots to channel 1, when they have set to previous channel, is amazing.
I can understand this person's situation. I started a new job almost 2 years ago, I was driving approximately 550 to 635 miles per week (not including around town driving), now this mileage could vary depending on driving conditions since the weather(I live in Upstate New York) could actually affect the route I would have to take. I've thankfully got friends that let me stay at their home during the week which brings my commute down to about 140 miles per week(again, weather permitting). Unfortunately, I can't afford to change my living arrangements currently and I've been doing this for nearly 2 years. It's the culture that we live in now that forces us to do these types of things, the guy in this article is lucky enough to have other people to "carpool" with, some of us don't have that luxury. I can say that the benefits of my employer are great which is the reason why I gave up a 30 minute round trip commute to a 3 hour round trip commute.
Problem is with the oil tanker, that's unprocessed oil, unless they actually had built a refinery right on the tanker, the jet ski's wouldn't have been able to operate on pure crude.
I agree here. When Bill stated last year that Microsoft would spend, what, a year improving the security of their software packages. We're approaching a year later and we've had the Slammer hit hard, because MS released a patch that was difficult to implement and no one did, and the internet came to a STOP. I wonder if they're are going to get a clue soon. I like my job as internet tech support, but the slammer gave my three man office a huge headache! MS, get your act straight!!
Your books are excellant! How do you get that amazing inspiration you have whe you write your books? I've read a few of your Star Trek books and maybe one or two of your others they are fascinating Captain.
The interesting part is, AOL decided that it was ok for MS to take their "Install AOL Now" icon off it's desktop, and now people are looking at alternative providers who are thousands of times more reliable than AOL and they [AOL] are losing gobs and gobs of dinero.
I know that people are looking for ways to copy protect CD's, but when they get to the point where the normal Joe can't play a CD on his computer at work it's gone to far. Yes, I agree with the fact that music companies do not want to lose money, but they ahve have to look at the BIG picture. They start pulling stunts like this, they are going to get bit back by the consumer. Who knows one group of people will stop buying this company's "protected" CDs and they will go with someone who doesn't protect their CDs. It comes out to be a double edged sword in the end. BTW, how did they ever copy protect cassettes???
After I had woken up from passing out in my chair this evening, I caught that one of the networks "head reporters" had crossed the police line and had gone in to see the wreckage. The reporter on FOX said that there were only 4 floors left where the two towers once stood. 4 of 110, that is a terrifying remainder. I also heard on the radio that people are using cell phones to contact the outside from the rubble, trying to tell rescuers where they are. At first when they said the building was falling, I thought it wa just the top where the plane had hit, not the entire damn thing! God be with those people who are out there looking for survivors.
