Oh well at least the Netherlands is doing something other than smoking hash
You mean the netherlands is doing something else than smoking hash, organizing the implementation of a new coin, putting research in optical media, keeping a big part of trade going around the world, paying a big part in useless joint strike fighters, (Am I the only one who sees the pun in this btw?), keeping their people happy, exporting crappy DJ's that foreign people seem to adore, etc, etc
These days we're even in political chaos, now that is unusual for this normally poltically quiet country. It might get a good turn on it tho:)
Oh and FYI the average of dutch people smoking weed/hash is lower than that of the US or the UK...
Hope this information has saved you from ignorance...
Why only bands, for people who like rock and such that might be fine, but it should extend to not just bands but producers and dj's too. I mean the electronic music they broadcast on mainstream stations is allmost as bad as the latest britney spears release.
So yes independent music is a good idea but don't just keep it with bands, let the people who like electronic music have some too;)
Even if you know what you're doing, dselect is a ponderously huge set of choices; just browsing through them to locate the ones you want while looking at the package name column and nothing else requires enough reading and keying to slow the process down to a crawl.
heh, sounds a bit like 'make menuconfig' now THATS a bitch
After reading (and experiencing) all these RPM problems I remember why I love the FreeBSD ports so much... Yes gentoo's portage system is nice too but it isn't mature enough imho. Debian's apt is also nice but I much rather have everything on my sys freshly compiled instead of using binary packages... But yeah RPM is terrible and I don't get how it ever got so popular in the linux world, I mean it is starting to look as messy as say... the windows registry.
Before you ask, I use linux (gentoo) for my desktop needs but I won't use anything else than *BSD for my server needs. And I don't run windows because I don't want to run illegal software and plain out refuse paying too much for my OS, for the rest, windows is looking nice compared to its standard of quality over the years...
Its only a matter of time before we start getting spammed on our cell phone SMS services. (they do that, and I'll go to their office and personally demand they pay me the $.02 it costs me to recieve their messages)
They allready have done that here in the netherlands through the numerous SMS gateways.
P.S. Do you pay money for receiving SMS messages?? Thats rediculous...
True, but doesn't bash get a lot heavier when you hack it up for the zsh functionality, and about the colours, I use the zsh themes anyway =)

There's nothing wrong with bash (unless you compare it to zsh, but I'm not here to start a holy shell war) But for my workstation I need a GUI for web browsing and also because I love the ability to having more terms on the same screen. (I love aterm) Besides that I just run gkrellm because it looks cool, but thats about it, the rest I do in the terms. P.S. I'm no graphic designer, I'm a coder, sys admin and network admin...

.NET for Apache

Microsofts stance on open source software has been 'GPL: bad, BSDL/Apache's license and those like it: good' This has been simply because of the 'virus effect' of the GPL which makes adoption of it a lot harder for companies which want to have their source to remain closed. So I can see why microsoft is working apache for other reasons than 'lets dominate the entire web service domain' (alltho thats prolly a big part of their strategy) Oh and is linux indeed apache's primary platform, cause it has been my observation that the BSD's and other unix-like platforms are just as important for apache as linux is.
But the big question is, will people really take in the.NET platform, especially with microsofts license game (Office, Media Player) and all the weird plans coming out of redmond. I know many pro ms managers who are scared of anything ms does now since they heard about those things. So let's just see what way it goes. Paranoia is just gonna make the open source community look stupid, and many slashdot users have given a very paranoid impression on everything that ms does. Take a more relaxing stance people and use what you want and be happy with that, other people will follow that example if only out of their own curiosity...
Yah I agree there, debian allways seemes just a little bit too chaotic for my tastes. But hell what can I say, I used slackware when I was still using linux. These days I just run *BSD, dunno suits me more than all the linux distro's I've tried... To the debian people: the package system looks nice, but the system just needs a bit more ease of administration, especially if you like to do everything with vim like I do. Oh and maybe do something like a ports collection, cause theres nothing like freshly compiled bins... =)
Anyways I'll check linux every so often to see if it has changed to my liking, I'll allways check it on the desktop tho cause BSD has won the server battle imho.
Well, being licensed for crypto might be a good idea but it wouldn't really be viable because it is so freely available and it allways has been. On this front it truely is warfare on the technological level because no law can stop this anyway.
And that is why you should at least get a sanity check and some training before you should be allowed to have a gun imho.
The problem with guns that when they are freely available that any one can go nuts and go on a shooting spree at a school or what not.
Crypto is a whole different subject, most people don't even know what crypto is. And it's not as easy by far to use as say a gun.
This new law your congress is talking about will only affect your freedom of speech, it might not look like a big sacrifice for security but the impact it will have on security will be next to none and it could be the first step to turning into a police state.
