Are there any open source projects or plans to release the code for this or something similar? It would be cool to have a gkrellm plugin that could monitor my network/disk/processor with soothing audio.
I like the idea of Nature sounds best. It would be like having an office in the middle of the jungle or in the bush. With the sound of elephants stampeding as the sweet sound of slashdotting...
While I agree with the inevitability that open-source software will have bugs and the fact that library permissions should be more restricted in certain cases, the most immediately important fact is this: Microsoft has not released a working patch for this widely exploitable patch. Even the security articles I have read do not mention how to manually prevent or remove the infections caused by it. I had to come to slashdot to find out that you can unregister the.dll for image viewing or turn DEP on.
In the open source world I am fairly certain that a patch for such a problem would have been started on earlier, perhaps even while the exploit was just theoretical. And, even if it had blown up in public, a patch would have been put out by *someone* quickly since everyone has access to the source code. Corporations with programmers could even fix it themselves. But, in the case of Microsoft, we have to wait on them to get off their asses and fix their proprietary code.
No sane business operator enters a contract in which one party has the right to disregard its terms at will
Yet, he claims the ability of content giants to extend/change the rights of their TPM-protected content after purchase as a feature. We have already seen what happens when DRMed content can be changed after being "sold": Apple has downgraded some of the features of Itunes music, for one example. I consider Apple to be one of the more trustworthy of the companies that use DRM, so imagine what the slightly less scrupulous companies might think of.
Who wants to purchase content that can be changed at will by it's "owners" even after purchase?
I don't know if they give it credit, but they also blatantly used the Plaza de España in Seville, Spain. I've been there twice and I noticed it immediately when I saw the film.

"What we have to do ASAP, is develop countermeasures. There *will* be a nanotech arms race."
Oh god, so that means I am going to have to get a yearly "anti-nanovirus" subscription for my body?
