I have a TiVo, I'm an HBO subscriber, I watch Rome every week, I download Rome episodes using bittorrent and to top it all off Speakeasy forwarded a warning to me from MediaSentry on Tuesday. I like to have copies of shows without having to copy them off my tivo and set all that crap up. I'm the person that everyone is talking about when they are trying to defend these kinds of torrents and the distribution networks that provide them. I'm him.
Use some common sense. I'm not that common. HBO is clearly in the right and they should be praised for finding such interesting ways to fight back.
No need to mess around with BIND/DNS. Just use a squid proxy server. Use the redirect_program option and write a simple perl script to replace the scea address with your own portal page.
I finished DOTT on this earlier this week, so what is there is pretty complete. Also, Ludvig and I implemented the voice and sfx stuff earlier this week, though its not in CVS yet.
And whats so bad about text interfaces? Their quick, scriptable and expanable. Build whatever kind of GUI you want on top of it or don't. Its up to you, you're not tied to some guys idea of what an easy to use interface is.
Is this guy actually guilty of anything? All he did was write a script (not illegal) and distribute the script (not illegal). It was (l)users who continued the distribute and *damaged* their own machines. No one is responsible accept the people who infected their own and other peoples machines. *That* is illegal. The script doesn't become a virus until its run.
If we're talking about projects that have helped Open Source become more dominant then surely Linux and other Open Source OS's should get a mention and not the rpojects that depend on them?
