I tried to buy a TiVo a few weeks before christmas from one of their listed outlets. Without exception, all of them told me that they would not be receiving any more units, and that the only chance would be to find an outlet that still had some in stock. The TiVo site didn't change to reflect this until recently - Now, they make no mention of actually being able to *buy* their product any more:)
I guess this explains the recent price increases in second hand units.
Then, of course, there's Microsoft's AC and AC2 which STILL can't deal with more than one session over a firewall/NAT or ICS (their own freaking product)... multiple ports over one IP is too hard I guess.
On AC, go to the setup program -> Advanced options -> Specify port. Enter a different port for each client. Voila.
Also, as I'm sure you are aware, both games were in fact developed by Turbine Games and not MS. MS merely operate the service.
I think we're going to be pretty successful with ASP.NET and ADO.NET, which are really well abstracted. Windows Forms is probably going to be the trickiest one because we might have to do some emulation of the Win32 layer. But we're positive we can solve the problems that remain.
Doesn't sound much like they have changed their mind to me...
Just like banning firearms in England lowered the number of crimes committed using one, right?
Firearms were not banned in England. The majority of firearms were already not legal to possess, with exceptions made for sporting/hunting/pest control purposes, which required a licence. What happened was that small bore guns used for sports were added to the list of banned weapons. It has never been a "right" to own a firearm in the UK.
Another thing I'm wondering about it copying data to memory can be considered "illegal copying". If this is the case for imported games, I do not see how this would make it "not illegal" (for lack of a better phrase) to load PS2 games of your home region (as it is still copying).
The key issue in the argument is whether you do it with permission or not. From the article (highlighting added):
The technical reason for the decision being based upon the fact that a game that is run without permission makes a copy of copyright material in memory, this copy is 'infringing' because it is an unauthorized copy argued Sony.
There's also a new expansion out for Asheron's Call. Dark Majesty was released a month or so ago, and offers a whole new play area, populated with new content. It retails for around $20, does NOT require the original game to play (it's included in the price of the expansion) and includes the first month free (usually $10). The real selling point for me is the monthly content updates... it keeps my interest going and gets me wasting way too much time on this game!
(Surly biker dude): We both knew it would come to this...you and me, in the circle of death!
Marge: Grrrr....I just *swept* the circle of death

AC2 was actually released in the US a couple of weeks ago. No idea about NAT support, as it hasn't been released over here yet.
On AC, go to the setup program -> Advanced options -> Specify port. Enter a different port for each client. Voila.

I don't live in the U.S so I don't really have a problem doing this:
I just hope you have no plans to visit...or if so, that you add in a few extra years to your schedule...
