That depends on whether the Microsoft patches you have installed don't actually do more harm than good.

For other than this particular exploit, it also depends on whether another exploit is made available before a working patch is made available for a publicized (or not!) vulnerability.

In short, no. You may be safer, but you're not safe.

My question is why use acoustics to move that diaphram? Why not a simple mechanical device instead?
Answer in two parts: "Frequency" and "moving parts". If you could get a significant enough compression wave from such an insignificant mechanical disturbance, or perhaps by setting up the right resonance wave maybe you could use a piezoelectric diaphragm...

The clip with the technology developers mentioned that they sometimes use argon instead of helium. There are probably characteristic differences in the efficiencies of the process depending on which noble gas is used, but at least we're not going to run out of Argon, which it seems is simply distilled from liquid air.

Copyright. I wonder who was the first person to use that word? What if the word itself was copyrighted, and we needed the original author's permission to use it?

Copyrights, Digital Rights Management, Patents - it's all the same thing. Someone thinks they get to OWN an IDEA. How wrong-headed can you be? I know that in America you for the most part worship consumerism and commercialism and essentially money (read: The Almighty Dollar), but we really need to get beyond that, and soon.

With software patents on 'one-click' shopping and even patents on human genes, every little bit of information will soon be owned by someone. What happens when we're no longer allowed to put two ideas together in a new way to come up with a completely new idea? What if we're never exposed to that critical 'idea seed' that will help us advance as a race because some pigopolist has a patent or copyright on it?

All the world's knowledge belongs to all humanity - it's our legacy to our children. What the vendors (RIAA / MPAA / et al.) need to do is learn to rely on service and added value rather than trade secrets and digital rights management. They seem to have forgotten that their raison d'etre is to SERVICE their consumers.

What WE need to do is vote bastards like this out of office and replace them with someone REPRESENTATIVE of the people.

Here in Canada, the gov't has authorized a levy on recordable media, which is to be distributed to the Recording Industry Association to help mitigate perceived losses due to illegal file sharing.

Note, no software developers get ANY share of this - just the music providers.

I never downloaded an MP3 in my life before I was forced to pay this levy. As a result of being forced to do so, I have put an over 3000 song library on one of the P2P systems for all to share. I figure we are paying for the music already - might as well make sure that peeps get their money's worth.

Another book on Earth Sheltered Housing is The $50 and Up Underground House book by Mike Oehler. He has a site at Undergroundhousing.Com where you can read about how he does it. It looks like a truly innovative way to build one of these for very little money and a great deal less work than rammed earth construction. Worth checking out!
